There had been plenty of times where Gigi had acknowledged she’d been lucky in terms of her relationship with George. Yes, she had been a complete fool, and yes, it still hurt that he had lied and used her the way he had, but she always had known she’d been lucky in the end. That William had found out despite the idiotic speech she had given him. That he had stood by her, helped her, just as Fitz had. Not everyone had that... and it seemed, the life she found herself in, the Gigi there didn’t have that either.
It had been such a shock, waking up next to George. Sickening. And what was even worse? She knew she could have started falling for his pretty lies all over again had she shown up in Lawrence even a couple weeks before she did. If she hadn’t known what he was planning. He seemed so sweet, like the person she fell in love with initially. The one who had blinded her and played her and left her broken hearted and wondering just how stupid she could have been, wondering what was so wrong with her.... And she thought, maybe this George was different.
But he wasn’t. She had tried to call William, Fitz, but she couldn’t reach either of them. Their numbers seemed to be changed. Yet there were no messages from them, no texts or emails or voicemails or anything. It had been odd, and heartbreaking, and had given Gigi a mission. Find out how to contact them. Because the signs that George wasn’t any better than he was back in the real world, her world? Whatever, either way, he wasn’t. She recognized the backward signs, the words he used to ensnare her. She recognized the way he twisted things to make him the victim.... things she never saw when she was with him because she hadn’t wanted to.
The version he knew, she never had run into William, not in the way that had blown everything apart, that gave truth to the lies. There had been no pay off. And now? Now Gigi didn’t even know if he would respond to her if she somehow reached him. But it was so very obvious that Gigi needed William. She needed to somehow get out of the mess she found herself and she knew that she couldn’t do it alone.
It was easy to see what he had done, how he broke other her down. The way he worded things when he lost his anger, the playing on how he needs her and can’t do this without her, whatever ‘this’ was. Enough isolation, enough making him dependent on her so she was dependent on him.... enough backwards apologies and compliments.... it was sickening, yet this was what other her dealt with. Because she was alone.
”Gigi, why do you make me hurt you? You know it breaks me apart when I do this... yet you just... I need to go to work. God seeing you like this hurts me so much.”
That was the latest in the... however many times she’d gotten herself shoved or grabbed to the point of bruises forming on her arm. This time she’d gone through the glass table and she was fairly certain she had sprained her wrist in the fall. And each time, he always seemed ready to cry that she ‘made’ him hurt her. That she was asking for it. And speaking out against it? Saying he didn’t have to had led to this. Gigi was at least thankful he was gone. She didn’t have the energy to deal with him.
Was this what would have happened had he stayed in her life? Would it have gotten so bad? She couldn’t see it and yet she could. She didn’t know why he hadn’t sought out a way to get paid off yet. Unless it went deeper. Nor could she understand why William or Fitz weren’t around. She had tried to get through to them yet it was as if they were ignoring her. She didn’t even know the password for her email here. She couldn’t access any of her accounts, bank, email, twitter... but it couldn’t go on like this. She’d go to a shelter if she had to. But what about other her? What would happen whenever this got righted?
Pushing herself up, the brunette went and found a first aid kit, doing what she could for the cuts and sprain before going back and researching. Well more, she decided to see if Domino even existed here. If there were any way she could get through to William, it would be Domino. Assuming he’d answer a message from her as he wasn’t responding to anything else. And good. Good it did. Without thinking of the ramifications this could have if George found out, Gigi downloaded the app. Still easy to use and she already had the benefit from her own world.
“Domino, call William Darcy.”
No answer. Of course.
“Domino, message William Darcy. William. It’s Gigi. Whatever I did, please.... I’m sorry. I need you.”
All she could do was wait. In her world, she knew how fast it would be for him to respond. But here, where she had no idea why she couldn’t find messages from him?
Or she could have an incoming call.
“Domino, answer call.”
And oh thank god, William was there. He looked confused, which almost instantly turned to concern and anger.
“Gigi, I haven’t heard from... what happened?! Are you okay?! Did he hurt you?!”
He was William. He wasn’t her William but he could be. No strange version. Something happened, she didn’t know. From the sounds of it she had walked away, she couldn’t tell in the half formed sentence before William got a look at her, but he was still the brother she could always rely on. The one she’d been missing her entire time in Lawrence. So between that, not knowing if they would stop George, and everything that had happened since she had shown up here, Gigi finally let herself cry.
“I’m in trouble and I don’t know how to get out and I keep thinking I can but I can’t. I don’t know what he’s done. But I can’t access my accounts and I didn’t even know if you would answer because I couldn’t reach you and...”
Gasping, Gigi buried her face in her hands, trying to calm down, and unable to look at the pain in William’s eyes.
“Gigi, I thought you didn’t wish for my interference and was trying to give you space, but I haven’t received any messages from you. Though from the sounds of it, I think I know why...”
Why would William think that? Even this world’s Gigi seemed confused. But then it made sense. George. He must have said something, done something to make the two think the other didn’t care. It was the only logical explanation. Not that Gigi was exactly logical at the moment.
“I’m sorry, I should have....”
Should have what? She couldn’t control other her even though she had a feeling other her was hurting as well. And other her would need William when they were switched back to normal, no matter what she might think thanks to the twisting words of George Wickham.
“You need to calm down and breathe right now, Gigi. We’ll figure this out. Together.”
Nodding weakly, Gigi wiped her eyes and tried to do as she was told but it was just so hard from everything she had suppressed since being in Lawrence then here and not knowing how to respond and constantly pushing to try and make some sort of change for good here.
“R...right, together. Okay.”
“I’m catching the next available flight. Do you have anywhere you can go?”
Did she? In the time she had been there, Gigi hadn’t heard from anyone, no one but George. The manipulations, the questions on why did she hate him so to hurt him like she was. Over and over and she felt sick. Again. Though if it was from the table crashing, who knew.
“Peach, where are you?”
Or George could walk in. Had it truly been that long or...? Either way, Gigi shot a look to the computer.
“I have to go. Domino end call.”
She knew William had seen the panic as she had seen a flash of rage before the call ended. But all she did was turn around in the computer chair and stare blankly at the flowers.
“I wanted to apologize.... let me make it up to you.”
“I need to lay down.”
“Come on, Peach.”
“Please, just let me rest. I’m tired.”
Without waiting for protest, Gigi moved to the bedroom, closed the door and locked it before sliding down against it. Next available flight. So she just had to hold on for another few hours. Though given how rampant his moods were, Gigi worried that even a few hours could prove daunting. So she was just going to hold onto the fact that she was going to see her brother again, in person, and soon... and that when this world’s Gigi returned home, she’d be free from George’s lies and spiraling abuse.
