She needed answers.
Oh, Guy might have been fine with spending his time taunting others, trying to feel his way around a new world with too much pride to seek much help at all. But that wasn't Marian. She felt lost enough on a daily basis. Trying to pull herself out of the fog that was typically her mind was hard enough. This had only added to her fears and her constant, emotionally draining sadness.
A world where Robin had never died. Where he came home to her, told her he loved her, and was going to marry her. Where the King was still Richard and things might not have been wonderful, but they were, at least, survivable. And Robin was alive.
She needed to see him. In the light, not curled up in a dark room beside him. She needed to take his hand in hers, convince herself he was solid and not just another haunting from the cobwebs of her mind. She knew they wouldn't be staying in this world forever. Everyone had said it. Though she hadn't been given permission to talk on this internet thing, she had read plenty. They weren't long for this world. Sooner or later, they'd be sent back. This Robin would have his Marian back, the one who hadn't been forced into marriage and who was still meant for him. This world would have its Guy back, the one who, though still angry at times and never all that social, wasn't the power-hungry, cruel man she lived with. And she...would go back with him, no matter if she wanted to or not.
If he had known, Guy would've been furious. She didn't really want to imagine what the consequences would be for this discretion. It never hurt her anymore. His goal had been to break her spirit, keep her from being the outgoing, opinionated woman she was. And he'd succeeded, mostly. She distanced herself from him, from her own emotions. Except where little William was concerned. And the moment he'd been born, Guy had gained more leverage over her than he'd had their entire marriage.
So a part of her may regret this in the future. But she waited until Guy had gone out. She'd tuned out his reasons, as she always did. Once she was certain he was gone, she slipped out, sneaking away as she used to do when she was young and unafraid of anything. The complex wasn't far and she had a good sense of direction so it was easy enough to find, despite the strange 'cars' and the street lights that dictated when she could go and couldn't go. And before long she was at the door she'd fled from just a few days prior. Mentally, she tried to brace herself for seeing him again after all this time. But she had a hard enough time keeping her head together on a daily basis. This wasn't going to be easy.
