Perhaps if Gaia had been in a more cheerful mood she might have laughed. But as it stood, humor was not exactly something she was prone to feeling currently. Though a sudden thought did occur to her, perhaps this woman was not one of the displaced people, and was simply a visitor to this city from elsewhere. Well, that would certainly make things a bit more difficult. Perhaps Gaia should not talk about ancient Rome as though she'd lived there lest this woman think she was insane or something. The last thing Gaia needed right now was to have an encounter turn in that direction.
While she might be having a emotional crisis inwardly, Gaia was still capable of functioning and it was not grounds to have her be locked up. So perhaps she should really drop that subject. At least until the other woman continued on in an explanation. It was a good thing Gaia was focusing on her otherwise she might have missed part of what she'd said. She was trying to ignore the storm within her, and while having something else to focus on did help, it was still difficult. Gaia did hate that when she was upset, her English was the first thing to go. But that wasn't so strange, one typically fell back to what was most familiar to them in such times. It was just a nuisance in this world because not many people would understand Gaia if she spoke Latin to them. Gannicus, Regina and Galen could understand her, and that was really the extent of it.
So all right, the other woman, Temperance Brennan as she said her name was, now seemed to be one of the displaced, only a new arrival. All right, that did make things a bit easier. Perhaps she wouldn't have to downplay where she was from so much. Though the term forensic anthropologist went right over Gaia's head. She didn't know what it meant, though Temperance's words after it seemed to be the explanation, so Gaia worked with that.
"Coffee, that would be appreciated, gratitude," Gaia said with a nod. She was in need of something far stronger than coffee, but for the moment, that would be well enough. As much as she wasn't exactly feeling overly social currently, the fact that Temperance understood Latin and wanted to know more about where she came from where things she did enjoy. So she would indulge. "Do not worry, this world is not an easy one to come to understand. The...diner you are in search of is this way." Gaia had momentarily forgotten the word for diner in English. While her English was good, it was obvious she was actively thinking about it before she spoke. That was not typical, she could converse easier when she wasn't otherwise distracted. "My name is Gaia. It would be my pleasure to tell you of my home." Turning, she began to head in the direction the diner was in, waiting for Temperance to join her.
