Interesting meeting in a graveyard? That was Buffy from the tip of her head to her stylish yet expensive boots. (Dawn was rich. She might have taken advantage of that fact just a little.)
Buffy felt a pang -- not that she missed hanging out in cemeteries, but it was a sign of just how different, how unrecognizable, things were here. She'd actually spent weeks without setting foot in a graveyard. She hardly recognized herself; it was amazing how many other people seemed to recognize her.
There was a whole community here, all in it together, and someday Buffy might want to be a part of that. Someday... she might want to belong. That's why all her pretending was on their internet... and why she pulled herself together and put on a smile to talk to Elena instead of just getting up and walking away.
But her smile wasn't for reassurance this time, it had a bit of an edge as she said, deliberately taking Elena's words the way she wanted to take them rather than the way she thought they were intended, "Are you looking for insight? Cause I know a lot of really insightful people. I could give you their names." She tilted her head slightly to the side. Wanna banter? Because she could do that.
