God, he needed a beer.
The wedding had been a beautiful ceremony. True, Becker hadn't met Natasha before, but Clint had been a good mate to him since he arrived and he could definitely see why the man had been drawn to the redhead. And they were clearly a happy couple, and good for them. But receptions weren't really his thing. Too many extremely awkward occasions at home, where well meaning relatives had tried to set him up with various eligible women, and even a few men. Becker was not opposed to relationships, but being set up really irritated him. And even though that was not the case here, like so many Englishmen before him, receptions had the reaction trained into him by now. So he politely said his farewells and headed out, breathing a sigh of relief as he loosened the tie around his neck.
Beer and Jack.
The other Captain had probably saved his life, finding him in the state he was, cursed and disorientated, believing he was reliving some of the worst days of his life. While the physical scars had long since faded into only faint marks on his skin, the memories haunted him still. And with the Carnival and now this curse, pulled to the forefront of his mind again.
It would have been so easy to simply dwell on it all, to let it drive him into a serious brood, but St Patrick's Day had helped. Seeing the ridiculousness of his friends, laughing at Connor and Abby, reminding himself that for all the darkness of war in his past that there was the light of their friendship. And Jack. Who Becker found incredibly easy to talk to. He could feel relaxed around Jack, and that was why he'd asked him out for beer that night. And there was the fact that he was attracted to the other man. Becker hated labels, always avoided defining himself in some way. He was attracted to individuals, like he had been to Sarah and that was a painful thought he was going to shove back into his mind. Tonight was not about grieving for the past, it was about spending time with a friend. Who happened to be incredibly good looking. And seemed to flirt back.
