Charlie was relieved that the dress worked. She smiled as she took his arm. It was a nice feeling being close to him. She felt that they were kindred spirits, similar to each other in some important ways. It went deeper than the fact that they both had special gifts of sorts, too. What mattered most was his heart. Andy had a heart of gold that anyone could see.
“So I’m a hero, now, huh?” She grinned. She liked the title. Lawrence was good for that. Back home she’d spent her time skulking around in the shadows, trying not to start fires or get caught. There wasn’t much time for heroics when you’re on the run. Here, though, Charlie was able to do some good with her fire and, since she had that Christmas wish, she hadn’t been lighting her bedsheets on fire in her sleep. She certainly didn’t take any of that for granted.
“Italian is perfect. I haven’t had good Italian for a while.” She gave a small smile. It was true. For a while she’d been eating whatever she could find in the complex kitchen. The fact that it was free was fantastic, but there wasn’t always a lot of variety.
