It wasn't that he wasn't coping. He was. Surprisingly well given all that had happened, But then of course that was routine. That was order and focus and behaving as he knew he must. He'd left the house that day, figuring Tom and Alex had been ready to let him free and knowing he was...manageable. Oh Leo would have left him longer, years longer perhaps but Hal had learned a lot since those days. But living here, fighting this war. He'd have to get out and do it. He'd already talked to people, humans, about this Maleficent. He wondered of course would she bleed, did things like that bleed. But someone could knock him out if they had to, or stake him if they really had no choice. But they needed someone willing to kill, someone who wouldn't let it into their heart to destroy them. Someone who could just accept it as it was.
And he could be that person. It wasn't bravado. He really could. What was one more life? And a cruel heartless life at that. He'd be doing the world a favour. He could kill her without blinking an eye and he could move on. Get back to his routine. Get back to what was left of his life after being pulled to this world of apocalyptic hell. He wanted this threat gone, and any others that stood in his way to the creature he'd glimpsed so long ago, when a cowardly move had cost them all so dear.
He would get there in this world if not in his own. But for that to work, for there to be a point Hal had to get out, had to walk among humanity. He didn't need to be their friend, he didn't need to get close. But he had to be human. He wasn't there to hide from humanity all his life.
Of course, if he'd been logical he'd have told Mitchell where he was going, or Katherine. "Ah but you didn't want to, did you. juuust in case"
The voice hadn't left since he'd drunk the blood Cutler had offered. Him. Lord Harry. It was fading of course but Hal knew he lived on borrowed time. Had done for a while now. And without Tom, without Alex. Who knew how long he had to help these people before he became the next enemy they'd fight.
No. he'd die before that happened. For now though he walked through a park he'd discovered, the midday sun not bothering him in the slightest. And remembered humanity. Remembered why he tried
