A flood of relief rushed through him when Ruby began pulling him up, starting on about herbs and the various ways to get into the usage of hex bags. Change of subject. Focus on something that wasn't so horrifying. Sam seemed eager to get a move on with it and was surprised to find that Ruby herself appeared to be sort of excited about teaching him. It wasn't the same excitement and enthusiasm that she got when she was out teaching him how to take down demons with his mind, was it? This was all very different. Magic wasn't the same as something that he already had inside of him. Sam didn't have magic. He wasn't...magical. Having demon powers was one thing, but magic was different. It was tricky. Sam had seen the bad side of it more than once. He had to admit - he was a little nervous about learning about it all just as much as he was intrigued.
"Protections seem like the best way to go. Not to mention the safest." Sam followed Ruby to where she set up the supplies, hand slipping away from her own so that he was able to point and prod at the various objects she as explaining to him about. Sam nodded along, stopped to question her when he didn't understand something, and most importantly, he listened. He was good at doing that when Ruby spoke. She always seemed to know what to say.
"Where do you find half this stuff?" Sam asked, picking at a funny looking herb. He knew where to find certain things, as Sam had performed a spell or two before on his own, but demon summoning was fairly simple. A little blood, a few things one could get from the grocery store, and it as all good. This was completely different.
