Sam stared at Ruby rather quietly, watching as she tugged the pillow out from underneath her shirt. That tension deflated, just a little. "I...uh -" He forced a smile. It was a weak attempt the first time, but he pressed it in for more enthusiasm to make it more realistic. "No, it was a good try. You could do better by way of a practical joke but you really had me there for a second. Good one!" He didn't really think that it had been a very good joke. All the same, Sam pressed a kiss to the side of her face - a quick one, much faster than any he'd usually deliver - before slipping around her and stepping into the new apartment.
"A beer....yeah, that's actually good for now." He shoved his hands into his pockets. "And then we can get started, right?"
Sam knew that Ruby had been joking. Mostly. But the sight had hit him a lot harder than he thought that it would have. It had been bad enough thinking about it, but seeing it? Scary. Way scary.
