WHO: The Doctor & River
WHAT: River regenerated. WHY?!?!?!?!
WHEN: Backdated to shortly after the Doctor’s arrival.
WHERE: The TARDIS!
RATING: TBD.
This new universe, riddled with dozens upon dozens of paradoxes, filled with new rules and new threats to take on in new ways with new people. It was complicated, even for the likes of this particular Time Lord. Though confused and slightly grumpy (really, why wasn’t this universe caving in on itself – it didn’t make any sense), Eleven was playing. He was in the game now and, as Rose had pointed out, the only way to survive was to learn how to adapt. This, in the Doctor’s book, meant he was going to have to make more rules. And loopholes. Lots and lots of loopholes.
But that would come later. The Doctor had a long list of things that he planned on doing now that he was in alterna-Lawrence, but he wasn’t going to be able to do any of them without his TARDIS. After a bit of wandering about (and a touch of mingling with the locals), the directions that the Doctor had picked off the boards eventually guided him to his destination.
And there it was. The most beautiful box in all the universe. With a sly grin on his face, the Doctor greeted her properly (no one was looking - he was entirely entitled to get frisky with his TARDIS!), then gave the TARDIS door a push. It budged the wrong way, so the Doctor pulled at it instead and the door swung open, revealing the console room that he had taken on upon his previous regeneration.
Odd. It didn't look that way before. The room had changed themes again. It seemed as though the TARDIS had decided to travel back in time herself. But why? And how?
After a few moments of worried tinkering, the Doctor mentally checked off finding the TARDIS from his to-do list and focused on the next item: find River Song. Regenerated River Song, who owed him a story. She wasn't in the console room, so the Doctor could only assume that she had taken to one of the rooms beyond. The swimming pool, perhaps? No. River wouldn't be swimming if she knew he was coming to find her. The library? Definitely not. The last place River Song wanted any Doctor to find her was in a library of any sort. Her room, then. The Doctor traced his way through the various corridors within the TARDIS until, eventually, he found a room that he was almost certain belonged to River. The Doctor knocked twice, then pulled the door open and poked his head inside. "River?"
