This was one time that Manticore's brainwashing was going to come in handy. Yep, brainwashing. Alec had been subjected to that in spades as kid. Just another part of the daily routine; how the hell was he suppose to know back then that children didn't spend hours at a time sitting in a classroom with their hands on a desk watching a slide show repeat three words over and over? Seemed like normal behavior when you grew up on a military base.
All those hours in combat training and psy-ops did have come with their perks. It taught him how to case an entire hotel and figure out if something was wrong or not. Someone sitting at a table, reading a newspaper, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible? Probably a suit sent by White. Hadn't spotted one of them yet. Not that Alec could be entirely sure that White was behind this whole mess. Sure, the guy had connections, but turning everything back to Pre-Pulse America? That seemed a little out of his league.
The hotel might not be five stars but it didn't seem like it belonged in the third country settings that Alec was used to. The city was missing a whole lot of graffiti, crime, and sector patrols. That should have been a pretty big heads up but he wasn't about to let his guard down. The voice in the back of his head (that was oddly sounding like Max) made sure of that.
He was standing in the lobby now with his trademark smirk tugging at his lips. Sure, this could all be a set up, but at least they sent a hottie after him. It'd make it a lot more interesting than having to tangle with some of White's normal idiots. Besides, if it wasn't a set up, he figured he might be able to score some action for the night. It was always worth a shot, far as he was concerned.
Flipping open his cell phone (which, admittedly, he was surprised to find that it worked), he checked the time and moved towards the entrance. Ruby, he was fairly sure that was her name, would be showing up soon. Time to get into the role.
