Jane couldn't help but laugh and clap her hands together at the sight of the kitten out of the tree and on top of the girl's head. She carefully picked the kitten up, cradling it in her arms as she tried to soothe him. He was shivering and whether it was from fear or cold, Jane couldn't be quite certain just yet.
"I think that worked just fine in this instance." She pet the cat, trying to figure out how to ask her question of the young girl. The last thing she wanted to do was frighten her with the absurdness of her thoughts. But the child was the only one she had met so far and as Jane glanced around she noticed that the others in the area had already begun leaving.
"I know this may sound strange, but can you tell me what city I'm in at the moment?"
She made sure to keep a smile on her face, even if it was rather awkward, but if she was smiling then she wouldn't seem scary. Right? Jane thought most people who smiled were particularly pleasant so maybe the girl would think so too.
