It was strange, not baking. One, it was how Elena dealt with things or, well, avoided. And it was Christmas. The time when baking should be at an all time high and not looked at as if there was something wrong with you. And yes, Elena had been baking to avoid because it was familiar and she had convinced herself she was fine, but Anakin leaving had seemed to wipe the inclination out of her mind and she had thrown herself into other things. Like adopting all the misfits of Lawrence or seeming to at least.
With things finally calming down from the attacks a few weeks ago, the city on its way to returning to normal, it almost felt like Christmas. Elena knew it was coming up, her conversation with Damon about what was going on at the house proof of that. But they hadn't really talked about it. The arrivals of the baubles just reinforced the fact that Christmas was upon them. It was why she had filtered to everyone in the house on what they wanted to do so she could tell Damon if they needed food for it or not, as well as see if he and Glinda would come over. And probably Stefan since he was Damon's brother and oh that would be awkward. Between Anakin being back and the fact that she and Stefan hadn't actually talked since the whole him asking if he should move on thing...
Stupid emotions. Stupid guilt. Stupid trying to process everything. It had been a good day, though. She had met up with Claudia and hadn't been so focused on the knowledge and memories from home. She had felt like a normal teen again. She also had a feeling there was more going on with Claudia than she was letting be known and Elena was determined to help her friend through that but still. Now she was back at the house, the post was up and Elena was laying on the couch reading.
The book of choice was Anna Karenina. Some people found reading books in translation difficult, but it didn't phase Elena at all. There were things like presents that she really should try to think of for people and while things were seeming more Christmas-y now, the brunette wasn't really focusing on it. She could be a last minute shopper with the best of them.
