She was warm.

Of course, the probably had something to do with the exceptionally toned body laying across her. Lifting a hand, she started low, then drifted it slowly up his flesh until she cupped the back of his neck, then gripped his hair. Tugging his head up, Natasha pressed a hard, passionate kiss to his lips, then maneuvered carefully until she’d managed to roll them over and put herself on top. Raising her head to catch her breath, she smiled down at him. “I need to get up.”

Without further ado, Natasha rolled lightly off the bed and stretched, then headed for the dresser to dig out some of her own clothes, tugging them on. “I need to go see James,” she said over her shoulder to Clint, then brushed a hand through her hair, before turning back to him.

“You’ll be here when I get back, right?”

Clint grumbled in complaint when Natasha switched their positions. He let his eyes watch her get up and he nodded. “You better the hell come back woman,” he returned. His eyes glanced at her neck then looked back up to her. “James has the dog tag. When we thought...well I figured you’d have wanted him to have it.”

Her hand fell to the point where the tag usually hung, and she frowned faintly at its absence. She’d assumed that it had been removed with her clothing after she’d been...taken care of, which was strange to even think about. After a minute, she nodded while meeting Clint’s eyes. “You were right.”

Moving back over to the bed, she leaned in and kissed him again, softer this time. "Я люблю тебя, мой Hawk," she murmured quietly. “I’ll see you soon. I swear it.” Straightening again, she headed for the door, stopping on the threshold to look back at him one last time. Sending him a smile, Natasha slipped out and headed for James’ room. Just like when she’d gotten to her and Clint’s room, she hesitated, wanting to barge in, but refrained. Instead, she lifted her fist and knocked softly.

Even though he had stayed out of the fighting, he had done some battling to and from the complex. True his abilities were more or less back so he wasn’t in too much pain like before, but he was still sore. Cracking open his good eye, he looked at the door and pulled the ice pack off. His eyes darted to Zeus who was half laying on his lap.

Ruffling the dog’s head fondly, he glanced at the door, putting the ice back on his swollen eye. “It’s open,” he called out, figuring it would be Bruce to come check on him. He petted Zeus’ head and waited for Bruce to come in.

Breathing a quiet sigh of relief that he didn’t try what Clint had and ignore her, she turned the knob and pushed the door open, then stepped through carefully. Nudging the door shut behind her, jade eyes landed on her son immediately and she gave a soft smile. “...Hello, James.”

Honestly, she wasn’t sure what else to say, but figured that would work, for the moment. Her eyes did most of the talking, anyway. “I know you’re going to ask, but...it’s me. I’m real and I’m back.”

The moment he heard his mother’s voice he sat up, the ice pack falling off his face and he blinked at her. “I...but...you...they...how?” he sputtered, clearly in shock. He tried to push Zeus off of him but the large dog stayed put though his tail was wagging as they both looked at Natasha. He swallowed.

“You...you died...Bruce said so. Showed me...” He blinked away the tears. “You were dead,” he whispered.

“I know.” Natasha nodded a little and slowly walked over. “I was. Bruce thinks the Seal may be responsible for this. For bringing me back.” Reaching out to Zeus, she let him sniff her hand, then quietly ordered him off the bed in a soft, firm voice. After he obeyed, Natasha sat on the edge of the bed and reached out to her son, touching his cheek softly, then smiled as her thumb brushed away a tear remaining under his eyes.

The moment he felt her touch, the warmth in her hand, he threw his arms around her and all but tackled her in a bear hug. “Don’t scare us like that again,” he ordered. He decided to tell her the whole truth of what he had considered while she had been dead. “I almost wanted to ask that deal guy to bring you back,” he whispered.

A surprised laugh escaped briefly when he tackled her, and she fell back on the bed, wrapping her own arms around him just as tightly. Sitting up carefully after a moment, she pressed her cheek to his hair. She knew he wanted a promise and for a few seconds she refrained. It was strange to consider that she had a family now, and had to consider them. In the past, her own death had never mattered because there wasn’t really anyone waiting for her.

“...I won’t,” she finally murmured softly, her arms tightening just a little more. His words caught her ears and she had to take a moment to remember what he was talking about, then lifted her head. “I’m so very very glad you didn’t do that, James. I never want any of us to have to get to that point.”

James nodded and he refused to let go of her just yet. “All I wanted was you back...” he murmured. He couldn’t care about the consequences if he had gone through with his plans to ask the Deal Demon of bringing his mother back to life.

“I lost you once before and now again... I don’t want to lose you a third time,” he whispered, tears slipping down his face. He pulled back and looked up at her through his good eye given the other was swollen shut.

“You won’t,” she swore, smiling softly. Shifting her hand to rest it on his cheek again, her thumbnail brushed the swollen area around his eye and she frowned slightly, head tilting. “Now. Tell me what happened here, James.”

He nodded some, smiling in relief. But when she touched the bruise he couldn’t stop the small wince on his face and he shrugged. “The complex was under attack and there were kids that needed protecting.” He left off the part it was all anyone would let him do. “So Zeus and I went to the complex to help keep them all safe. Got into some scuffles on the way to and from.”

He gestured at his eye. “Someone possessed got a lucky punch in. Clint said put ice on it to keep the swelling down.” He lifted the ice pack and gave a sheepish grin. “I guess I have more training to do.”

She returned his grin with a small smile, helping to settle the ice in place. “I’m proud of you for keeping them safe. You and Zeus.” Her glance took in the dog, before her attention returned to her son again. At his words about training, Natasha shrugged slightly. “It happens, sometimes. I’ll teach you a few moves to deflect punches...tomorrow, or the next day. Not tonight. Tonight, we should go to the main room...I need to let everyone else know I’m okay.”

James nodded and disentangled himself from her and got to his feet. He picked the ice pack back up and placed it on his eye. “We all missed you,” he said quietly, watching her, almost afraid that if he looked away she’d vanish again. That this was all a dream.

She stood as well, then slipped her arm around his shoulders, leading him towards the door. “I know,” but she didn’t, not really. She wasn’t used to being missed. Pushing her hair back with one hand, Natasha stepped out with her son. “I’m okay, James. We’re okay, and we’ll always be okay.” Shooting him a smile, she started down the hall.
