For a moment seeing Krypto walk toward the two of them had Lois convinced everything would turn out alright. She reached down to stroke his head, muttering a quiet “good boy” as he rubbed against her leg. If that dog was back then that had to be a good thing, had to mean that whatever was happening wouldn’t continue forever right? Kon’s blood seeping into the hallway floor told another story. She briefly wondered if this was how powerless Clark had felt when he’d found her all those weeks ago laying in the middle of the sidewalk bleeding to death. Clark had saved her then and like hell she was not going to do the same for Kon now.
Lois ignored Kon’s order for her to stay inside and lunged at the creature, wanting to distract it further to help Kon in getting away. She could see the blade twisting into its chest as she made contact with his back, fingers moving to try and gauge at his eyes to blind or wind or do anything to him. It worried her that the monster didn’t seem all that irritated by the weapon, though it probably explained why it so easily managed to grab hold of her and then fling her back as though she weighed nothing more than a ragdoll. Lois crashed into the wall, air leaving her lungs and she knew she wouldn’t last being awake much longer.
The pain was too much and she was fairly sure she’d either bruised or broken her ribs because of the impact. Her breathing was becoming more labored by the second and she remembered her doctor’s warnings when she’d been discharged. Rest was vital so she didn’t re-puncture her lung, to give it time to heal or it could all too easily happen again. So much for doctor’s orders.
She forced herself to stay conscious, trying to remember what she could about the creature in question and her gaze fell down to the lighter laying inches away from her. She’d been carrying it in her pocket since reading over Peter’s list since fire was one of the ways to kill a few of the creatures. Maybe it would work with this one?
Lois attempted to say the teenagers name, but her voice wouldn’t work properly. She batted the lighter toward him, hating that it stopped halfway across the floor. Thankfully Krypto picked up on what she was after and nudged it the rest of the way toward his master. Lois hoped Kon would figure out what to do as the pain finally grew to be too much and unconsciousness took over.
