Who: Darcy Lewis and Demon What: Darcy goes out for cough medicine and ice cream for Loki! Where: On the way to the store. When: Wednesday Afternoon Rating: PG-13ish
Loki being mortal was strange. That was the be all/end all of this whole thing. Darcy had gotten so used to the fact that her boyfriend, the guy that she loved, was a god. He’d always been so powerful, able to do anything . Sure, that hadn’t always meant that she was safe. There had been things that had happened even with Loki being what he was, but overall….being with him was so safe. He always protected her. Darcy had never been so independent or self-sufficient that she hadn’t let him help her. She didn’t need him to protect her, though. She was capable of keeping herself safe, when it came to most normal things. That included demons, actually. She’d learned all of the precautions that a person was supposed to take. She’d learned about the holy water, Christo, and she’d been over the exorcism words and procedure a few times. She wasn’t into fighting, though. She didn’t want to be G.I. Jane hunting down demons and taking care of that sort of business. Darcy was happy just knowing how to keep safe and being herself.
Normally during a disaster Darcy would have kept herself at home. She would have stayed there and she would have just…waited it all out. That was what she usually did because things didn’t normally hit too close to home with her. Normally she felt like she didn’t need to go out and do anything during these escapades. This time was different, though. Loki was mortal. He was mortal and he had a cold. It sucked to see him feeling anything below his best. And Darcy hadn’t had any colds lately, so there wasn’t even any medicine in the apartment. That was the reason that she decided to brave this whole situation and run down to the store. She was even going to get him some ice cream for when he felt better. He always took care of her. The least that she should be able to do….was this, really.
Darcy wasn’t useless. She really wasn’t. She needed to do this one thing for Loki. Colds could suck.
Darcy had left the complex planning on coming right back. She had been planning on just getting in and out. She wasn’t without protection, though. She had her amulet, had the necklace that Loki had given her. She had her tazer. She had holy water . She felt like she was ready.
Darcy’s footsteps were light clicks on the sidewalk as she headed toward the store going halfway between a jog and a speed walk. She was trying to be aware of everything around her, but she knew her destination and her path was like a tunnel. She had both of her hands in her jacket pocket. One hand was on her tazer and the other was on the holy water that she had with her. Part of her was nervous, but she didn’t want to have to arrange someone to walk with her. She just wanted to get there and back and it really should have been easy.
Hell, how much did Loki do for her? When she had the nightmares after an alternate him had stuck her in that nightmare sleep….he’d stayed with her. He’d held her until she was able to sleep. And even after she’d fallen asleep he went steps further and had soothed her while she slept. Loki was amazing to her. He felt so bad knowing that it had happened to her at all even though it wasn’t his fault. He took so much on himself. And now that he was human he couldn’t do everything that he normally did. If there was something that Darcy was an expert at that Loki wasn’t it was being human. She’d always been human. She knew her limitations; he didn’t just yet, really. He was adjusting, but these were things that he hadn’t ever gone through before. Loki had never been human.
Darcy wanted to help him. That was her motivation behind going to the store. It wasn’t his decision, though. She had made up her mind and had decided what was going to happen. Nobody would have been able to change her mind. Darcy could be either the most laid back and chill person in the world at times and others she could be a major pain in the ass with her stubborn and hardheaded decisions. She was aware that she varied between the two things.
The young woman was so focused on looking around, on everything. It didn’t help her, unfortunately. She was so close to the store. It was within her line of vision now. She didn’t know that she wasn’t going to make it to the store, though. Darcy had turned her body so that she could check behind her. She hadn’t been taking any chances. She’d been looking in every direction periodically throughout her journey. Before she got the chance to turn back forward she was startled by the feel of hands grabbing her by the jacket. Darcy didn’t even think as the scream escaped her mouth. What followed was so quick it sent Darcy reeling. There was a blow to her face that hurt like hell followed by a mouth covering both her mouth and her nose, it made it difficult to breath considering just how much Darcy was freaking out right now. She tried to suck in air, but it was impeded just enough that it made it harder. Tears sprung to Darcy’s eyes as she looked up at her attacker only to see the shiny black glossy eyes looking back at her. She couldn’t help the stifled whimpers that came from her. It was like the world had gone silence. She was deaf to anything else around her and she couldn’t focus on anything but the demon that had her. All that existed was her and the demon. The demon was saying something, but it didn’t reach the young woman’s ears, the words weren’t registering. She could see their mouth…or somebody elses’ mouth moving, but nothing was coming out according to her ears.
What was she supposed to do? She couldn’t scream Christo at the thing with hit holding her like that. She did the only thing she could. First the tazer came out and Darcy managed to point it at the demon’s leg, pulling the trigger and watching the ends shoot out at the thing. What happened next was fairly surprising. It…distracted the demon. Darcy was surprised to feel the hands fall from her and she bolted. The demon reached for her as she bolted, it’s hand managing to grab ahold of a fist full of Darcy’s long hair, her two necklaces tangled in with it. She let out another scream, one hand automatically going back to try and hold her head, feeling the pain from her scalp. She wasn’t done fighting yet, though. Darcy let her other hand snake into her pocket, grabbing the holy water. She could only hope that this worked. Flipping the top she lifted her hand above her head and squeezed, feeling the water sprinkle on her head and on the demon’s hand. The scream that erupted rang in Darcy’s ears. She felt the demon’s hand pull back, ripping out some of her hair and her necklaces giving, ripping off of her neck, but she wasn’t being held anymore. On instinct she ran again, tossing down the now empty bottle the holy water had been in.
She was so close to the store. Maybe if she got in she could be safe because people were around. Anything was better than standing there like an idiot or trying to outrun a demon. That was her thinking. She knew that she had nothing else to protect herself with now. Her tazer was gone, no more holy water, and her amulet had been pulled off. She just had to get a little further and she hoped that would help. Darcy didn’t make it to the store, though. One second she was running and the next thing she knew she was flying off of the ground, smashing face first into the brick side of a building and then smacking back onto the ground. Darcy was so dazed. She was in pain and the contact with the building had stolen her breath away again. All she could do was lie there, trying not to move, even though everything in her was telling her to run. She couldn’t, though.
Darcy looked up at the person standing above her now….looking angry. She was sure she was going to die…. Instead of hurting her more, though Darcy was even more startled as smoke drifted out of the person’s mouth and then came flying at her. Darcy regretted instantly leaving the safety of the complex. She wished that she’d fought harder. She wished so many things. She was pretty sure that this was going to wind up bad. And then suddenly……….things got different. She could feel herself in her body, she could see everything around her, but she wasn’t in control. She could feel the demon there with her…taunting her. The demon wasted no time getting up from the ground and heading off. All Darcy could do was protest, but it fell on uncaring and deaf ears.
What was she going to do? What was Loki going to do? Was she going to die?
