Steve listened as Helena explained everything that had happened after he died and up to the point she had died at. Sykes, the bomb, the lock, all of it. Like before he took his time in processing it all. After a few moments he looked up at her. "It seems we have something in common then. We both died for the ones we care about and the Warehouse."
He took a sip of his tea. "Not long after I joined, Mrs. Frederic and the regents came to me and told me about a mission to get intel on the guy who was making a play against the Warehouse. Given with ATF I've done a lot of undercover work, and that I had been there the least amount of time, it made the most sense for me to be the one who went in undercover. And...it was a way to protect Claudia. I hadn't been able to protect my sister but I could protect her. So I agreed."
He looked over at the Victorian woman. "I knew there was a risk of me dying. Undercover work can go sideways fast and given Sykes had killed off a lot of his help..." He shrugged and finished the tea. "I just can't help but think that if I hadn't helped him, had kept the Janus coin from his grasp, he never would have gotten into the Warehouse." He met her eyes. "I'm sorry for my part in that."
