Who: Jonathan and Spike
What: arrival!
When: after dark
Where: a random street
Warnings: geekiness. flailing. possible language
Status: we're working on it

Jonathan blinked and whirled around not once or twice, but a few times as he tried to figure out what the hell had happened. One moment he was heading into the room with Andrew, inside of the highschool and the next second he was alone and outside and clearly not in Sunnydale anymore. From the sign across the street he was apparently in Kansas. He had no idea where in Kansas, but the ice cream shop was definitely stating that it was the best ice cream in the state of Kansas and he couldn’t come up with a reason why there would be a store in Sunnydale touting that belief. Not to mention he knew pretty much every store in the town and none of the ones on the street he was currently turning around on seemed at all familiar.

It didn’t take him long to frantically start plugging away at the walkie-talkie in his hand. “Andrew?” All that answered back was static. “I think I pulled a Dorothy somehow and I’m not exactly sure how that one’s possible since the only slippers I own are bunny ones and there was no tornado...” Not that it was that out there considering everything else he’d experienced in Sunnydale. Suddenly being teleported to another state wasn’t too hard to believe. He couldn't figure out why Andrew wouldn't have arrived with him considering they had been next to one another only seconds before. “Check check?”

Okay, the walkie-talkie definitely wasn’t working. He headed down the street, hoping he could find a store that was open that late at night and wouldn’t mind him using the phone or locate a payphone or a police station or someone that wouldn’t mind pointing him to the nearest bus station so he could start the trek back to California. He’d figure out the money situation later. First, he just needed to find some kind of answer as to where he was exactly and maybe how he’d arrived in Kansas.

After the night out of town in Kansas City last night with Pip, it was back to another normal night in Lawrence, which as far as Spike was concerned, was not nearly as interesting or crazy as people made it sound. Perhaps it was the calm before the storm, but with the way people talked, he'd expected more Apocalyptic action. This nearly seemed like a bloody vacation compared to Sunnydale. Not that Spike was exactly complaining. He'd rather this than the supernatural hotbed that was the city over the Hellmouth.

Tonight, he was still working on figuring out exactly what he would be doing when he heard someone talking babble-y nonsense. He fought back a groan. There were two options: Investigate the babbling further or ignore it and go on his way. But then he heard the guy asking for Andrew and his interest peaked ten-fold. "It's not gonna work, mate." he commented, coming from behind him, flicking cigarette ashes to the ground below. "Too much interference with inter-dimensional travel."

Oh god, oh god, oh god. He knew that voice. Or at least he was pretty sure he knew that voice. And the holy water and cross and any other anti-vampire weapons were all tucked away in the backpack. The one that was on his back and definitely not going to be accessible before a scary vamp could sink his teeth into his neck and drain him dry. This was karma, wasn't it? He finally accepted all that had happened, he was trying to make things right, and instead of being able to head down that path and do it he was going to be eaten by Spike.

Jonathan turned around, eyes wide with terror as he confirmed his worst fear. He held up his hands in front of him and shut his eyes tight. "Just make it quick," he pleaded, peeking out at Spike and then quickly closing his eyes again. Man, this sucked. He hoped he wouldn't rise as a vampire after it was over. Blood had to be exchanged, didn't it? He really should've paid a little more attention sometimes.

Spike's eyebrows shot up when he turned around. That was actually familiar face. Not that he should have been surprised. People dropped into this town all the time and there were several of the lot from their world here. "What are you doing?" he asked, voice laced with incredulity.

He shook his head, reaching over with his free hand and pushing he kid's hands down, "Put your hands down. Not gonna eat you." he rolled his eyes.

Jonathan stumbled back at the contact, a terrified squeak coming from his mouth as he opened his eyes and continued to stare at Spike in terror. "Why not?" Wait no. NO. It was probably not a good idea to ask why not. It was a good thing not to be eaten, right?! Unless he was just going to kill him. Was he not even fit for a snack before dying?

"How did you get here?" Should he ask questions? He wasn't sure if asking would be more annoying and perhaps push death happening sooner rather than later, but maybe he'd die knowing what was happening?

"Gave that up awhile ago. Nasty habit." he said, a bit amused at the reactions. He was so jumpy. Although, all things considered, it was really to be expected. "I walked." he chuckled. "You mean to Kansas? Big Seal in the sky." he shrugged.

"I'll explain on the way," he said, making a motion with his hand, silently beckoning for Jonathan to follow him. "Need to get you to he complex and all that. Andrew's there." he added that last bit in just to ensure the liklihood of Jonathan following him.

Jonathan wasn't going to follow him at first. It seemed too much like Daniel going into the Lion's den, but he didn't fancy himself the one that would be walking out like Daniel had. The moment Andrew was mentioned though, he knew there was no way he couldn't follow. He needed to know what was going on with his friend. What if Andrew was in some kind of trouble? Jonathan would never forgive himself if he left his friend in need.

"What's the complex? Seal?" Did he mean the one from back home? But no, that didn't make any sense. It didn't have anything to do with Kansas. "Can you maybe explain what's going on? More then just Seal in the sky?"

He paused, glancing back over his shoulder to see if he would follow. Satisfied when he did, he kept on his way. "Apartment complex where most of the people that turn here stay." he shrugged, taking a drag off his cigarette.

"The Seal....sort of like the Hellmouth, except...better? Worse...? More powerful, anyway. Pulls people here from all sorts of worlds." Spike really probably wasn't the best one for explaining these things, at least not in detail, because he didn't care for the smaller bits. "Basically, your average Apocalypse, bit the demons are different and the Big Bad is Lucifer. Literally."

Jonathan just sort of nodded along as he followed Spike, trying to figure out what the man--vampire--whatever was spouting off at him. So there were other people around that were displaced. Andrew was there. The demons weren't like the ones from back home...

"How do I go back?" He wondered if it was even possible to return home. Usually when this type of thing happened in the movies people didn't go home until whatever brought them was good and ready for them to leave.

"You don't," he said, shaking his head, tossing the remains of the cigarette on the ground. "Not until the Seal decides to toss you back, anyway."

He led the way down the streets through town to get to the complex. "When we get there, you'll want to get an amulet. Keeps the demons here from possessing you." he explained.

"Demons can possess us here?" How did that work? Was it like ghosts? Jonathan had a feeling there was a lot that he was going to need to learn about in order to survive. "Are they free?"

Because he was pretty sure he had maybe twenty dollars stashed away in his backpack for an emergency. Maybe. Or did he spend that on lunch? It was hard to remember even if it had only been a few hours before.

"Yeah, still not sure how all that works, exactly. Only been here a month. There's a camp, though, just...ask around, someone can tell you about it." he nodded. Spike had been here long enough to know enough to overload a person, but not to completely explode their brain. Or he hoped that was the case anyway.

"Yeah, it's all free, the whole complex. Most people don't have money when they land here, so they set a place up for the displaced, as we are all so delightfully referred to."

"How do I ask around?" He hoped it didn't involve knocking on doors. That would be awkward and he really didn't want to try meeting people face to face in order to get answers right away. If he had to he'd suck it up and do it, but Jonathan really hoped there was another way.

He also hoped they were nearing the building. He hadn't been exhausted before, but with all the new information and the realization that this most likely wasn't a dream, Jonathan was beginning to feel tired. He at least needed to sit down soon in order to process everything, but he wanted to do that away from Spike. No reason to show the vampire how vulnerable he was feeling. Though maybe he senses that. Like bees did with fear.

"There's this network online, plenty of people there to answer whatever I haven't covered." he said, pulling out another cigarette. Finally, the complex was coming into view. He pointed, "That's it, complex with the best room and board in town. Besides Pip's...but I'm guessing you don't exactly want to live in the same building as me, do you?" hee asked, an amused lilt to his voice, a smirk on his lips.

"I. No. Not that I." He tried not to do any nervous laughter, but couldn't help it. "I'm good with this one. This isn't the one you're at, is it? Not that it matters." Oh god. He was going to stop talking now. "Uh. Network. Okay. I'll just go find that network and the amulet and you can go back to whatever it was that you were doing."

And not eat me. Please do not eat me. He would just keep inwardly chanting that to himself.

"No, this isn't the one I'm at," he shook his head, still amused. When they arrived, he slowed to a stop outside the building. "This is the part where you run inside because, even though you just walked through town with me, you still think I might eat you."
