Martha's expression was filled with compassion, aware as she was that the idea of pneumonia was terrifying to them, who came from such a different time.
"If it's alright with Marguerite, it's more than fine with me if you stay overnight too," she smiled reassuringly at Percy. "It means I can keep a closer eye on you too, make sure you're not coming down with anything yourself."
These were her first real patients since arriving, and Martha was determined to do this the right way, to make sure both of them recovered fully, and she would be there for whatever they needed. "I know this sounds really worrying for you, but I promise you, with antibiotics, fluids and plenty of rest, you'll be just fine. I'm going to be here all night, so if you need anything, just call me."
For the first time, she was incredibly grateful that she worked the night shift, that she'd be around and awake to reassure them if they needed it, or even just to watch while they slept just in case they did wake and need anything.
"Okay, I'll go and get a couple of beds made up and the IV and medications ready, if you two don't mind waiting here for a moment?"
