Martha's eyes widened, just a little, at the mention of how far in the past they had come from. 220 years. When immune systems were far less advanced and the common cold could become so much more.
"Thank you, that has made a difference," she nodded with a small smile to Percy. She took a deep breath and tried to think how best to put things without scaring the couple too much.
"Okay, at first I thought you might have been simply suffering from the same cold that was affecting the others, but given that your immune system is weaker than someone from the 21st century, I'm worried that it might have become bacterial pneumonia in your chest. The good news is that cases of pneumonia now are far less serious than they would have been in your time, and we can definitely treat you very effectively here." Her smile was reassuring and calm, as she mentally assessed what she would need.
"I am going to start you on some antibiotics, and if it's alright with you, I'd like to keep you in overnight and put you on an IV drip. The collapsing makes me think you could well be dehydrated and a drip would be the most effective way of getting your fluids back up. IT does involve having a needle placed in your arm overnight though, so I understand completely if that's not something you're comfortable with, and we can come up with another option, though it will take longer to be as effective. Keeping you here overnight means I can monitor how you're responding to the antibiotics and also give you some increased oxygen, which should help to ease the coughing."
She paused again, aware she was saying a lot of things that might take them both some time to process. She did have one last point though, this time for Percy. "I would also like to give you something to help prevent you from coming down with anything as well, if that is acceptable to you?"
