Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:crowley, ruby winchester

Who: Ruby and Crowley
What: Catching up on old times
Where: Crowley's flashy new set up
When: Couple of hours after he showed back up
Rating: Low but probably reminicing about slaughter, its how they roll
Status: In Progress

He was ridiculous. That was all there was to say about it. He'd swanned into town, annoyed a good percentage of the population, had already taunted Booth and was likely responsible for why Sam had gotten up at 6 AM that day to shoot things. But yes Crowley was back, and leaving her daughter in the capable hands of her husband. Ruby had gone to meet her old friend alone and try to work out just what the agenda was this time round. Because he had one, he always had one and the demon just hoped it didn't involve Emily. Cause much as she liked the Crossroads King she would put the colt to his head herself if he decided Emily was useful to his plans. And she knew one day maybe it would come to that. Maybe when Lucifer was defeated, when hell was in Crowley's hands. Maybe then he'd look to gaining more power. And Emily Winchester was power that not even her parents really knew what to make of yet.

But for now, at the very least for the duration of this fight, she knew Crowley was onside. He liked being alive and being on the side against Lucifer was the only way he had to do that. So she'd go to find him and just for this one evening he'd be the old friend that she missed sometimes, that old temptation with stories of their shared past.

Oh and she knew how to find him. That bit was easy, she had it narrowed down to three bars and two fancy looking homes humming with magic protections. Anti Angel mostly of course, Protected, on the outside at least, against most Demons too but that hadn't bothered her since her wish. In that way at least she had one up on him and she actually liked it that way, for however long it lasted. She decided on the place after hearing the music being played. Old, over-dramatic. Very Crowley. It had taken her a little while to bypass some of the magical traps. Most couldn't. But then he knew her, and her skills, and this was a test like everything with him was a test. With a couple of expanses of power and a well placed hex bag or two. She was in.

"Open up and quit showing off, or do you have more hoops you'd like me to jump through first. You owe me a scotch. And I know you have Morrison hotel in there somewhere so make it happen before I sulk" she ordered, waiting at the door pouting decidedly melodramatically. It was just like old times.

Too like old times in some ways, but less blood, less babies and nuns involved.

It was like they were growing as not-people.

Crowley watched her approach, with a glass of scotch in his hand and a smirk on his face. Really, she was very good. Exceptional even, and as per usual he took a moment to sulk that she hadn't been one of his. Which potentially could have been a good thing, he remembered all too well how he had risen to power himself, but still. If all that devotion she had once had for Azazel could have been for him, oh the pair they could have made.

But regrets were for other beings, not him. He was far more entertained by the here and now, and watching his friend outwit every task he put for her. Even some of the more challenging ones that had foiled a couple of the demons in his employ. (Demons who were, of course, now nicely out of the way. The really good help he tried to keep away from the Winchesters as much as possible.)

The pout made him laugh, a genuine sound of amusement, and with a flick of his fingers the door swung open. He was already standing, pouring another glass of scotch for her. The most expensive drink, from a crystal decanter. He was a demon who liked his luxury.

The drink ready for her, held out, his own in his other hand, he smirked that was as close as he got to an actual smile. "Hello, love."

Ruby rolled her eyes at the smirk. He'd been showing off of course but she figured she'd surprised him. Or at the very least lived up to the usual expectations of just how damn awesome she was when she wanted to be. And she had to admit she'd been out of practice this last while. But hey, scotch as a reward was not something she'd say no to. Emily was on bottles now and she knew Crowley got the good stuff. She sometimes didn't want to know from where. But he managed.

She stepped into the foyer and looked around. Yeaah this was pretty much vintage Crowley, fancy looking house, lots of random history videos and books. And of course the music. Though the lack of Jim was still making her pout.

"Clearly you missed me or you wouldn't have gone for the grand theatrics." she told him with a smirk of her own already feeling as at home as she would anywhere outside of the house she shared with Sam. She took the scotch, perhaps too trustingly given King of the Crossroads and all but she knew this demon better than any of them, save Azazel obviously. As much as anyone could really have known him. "Though I approve." she told him after a sip. "More of this would be good, for future reference."

She finally crossed the floor to meet her old friend and after considering a handshake for a moment decided to go for a hug. She knew all the wrong that came from keeping this friendship alive but dammit she missed him when he wasn't around. "I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that'll say this and you know I'll take it back aggressively with the Colt if you screw with me or mine but dammit I missed you."

"You know I only do the grand theatrics when I know I'm going to get a good show," Crowley even through in a sweeping gesture with his arms, to prove the point, while of course not spilling a drop of the scotch. He had skills like that. And she appreciated such things. She appreciated his talents as much as he appreciated hers. And what talents she had.

He had to grin when she hugged him, and he returned the gesture warmly. And it was genuine. Ruby was probably the only being in this or any other dimension he could be truly himself around. Lilith had been all about the lies and distractions, the power for himself. Anna had been, well, unique. His superiors, when they had been such, were competition to be disposed of and his subordinates were the creatures he needed to keep in line.

And well, there was Pup, but a hellhound wasn't exactly great company.

Even a demon needed that one person he could relax around and for the King of the Crossroads, Ruby was his.

"So dramatic, love, going for a little theatrics yourself, hmm?" Honestly, he would have been disappointed if she hadn't. And it helped prove to him once again that Ruby's intense loyalty was still where it was. Sam Winchester. Oh well. "No need for Colts, you know I mean that family of yours no harm." Which was entirely true. Yes, one day that might change, it might suit him more to change his mind again. But Ruby was smart, she saw the world around them and Crowley would bet a years worth of souls that she would know at the exact same time as him when circumstances changed like that.

"I missed you too. No one down in the Pit quite has your skill with words. Pity really. Finally figured I had to come topside again, catch up with you again."

Ruby couldn't help but laugh at that. He was a jerk basically. "So, you dragged all this out so you could get a show in Why Ruby is Awesome? Has it really been that long or did you want to see if I'd still got it after marriage and a kid? Well, least you made with the good scotch I guess. Did I deliver?" she asked with a bow as she pulled back from the hug and settled into one of the comfier chairs. If it was his favourite, tough. He could make a thing out of it. She'd earned this.

"No one down in the pit is as entertaining either hm?" she joked, much as she knew it was possible this was temporary and some day her daughter would enter his sights as a prize to be won it wasn't yet. And when he started to turn she'd be ready. He knew her better than most of course but equally, she knew him. "And my theatrics have a point. But then you know that, and why I needed to say it. Its not that I don't trust...well it is, demon and all. I just don't want to have to wind up on the other side to you. And we don't have to be, you know that much as I do. I do know what you want when this is done and I'd rather you down there than any single one of the others. But the second you decide Emily is 'useful' to you. It's game over."

She sipped again at her scotch, relishing just how good he was at picking the perfect year for this sort of thing.

"Now that that's out of the way though, we don't need to go over it again. So tell me, how messy is it getting down there. Have you been around the Pit lately or did he figure you out?"

"I prefer to call it the show of Why Ruby is Less Annoying Than Others, we can't let your ego get too big now, can we." He paused as if finished with his point, before the smirk came back and he raised his glass to her. "And yes, you've still got it, delivered and then some. Domestic life hasn't made you soft after all." Which was a relief. She'd be so boring then, and then where would he be?

"Half of them are incapable of actually having a thought of their own," he rolled his eyes, with a hint of disgust. Really, demons. Now, he wasn't one to hate on his own kind, but some of them were just morons.

Crowley listened to her speak her piece, and it was a sign of his regard for her that he actually listened, and didn't just nod along. "Maybe we'll be on other sides one day, maybe we won't be. Right now one thing we know for sure is if Lucifer wins then we're both dead. And after that," he half shrugged. "I'm not an idiot. Doesn't exactly scream healthy to me to invite Winchester and friends wrath down on my head. Besides," he paused to sip the scotch. "Believe it or not, I don't actually want to have to fight you. You and me want the same thing, love. The status quo as it is. Some demons, some hunters, win some, lose some. Worked well enough for centuries, doesn't need to change now." And maybe one day a hunter would decide to take him on. That day was not today.

Still, he did sigh, staring at his drink for a moment. "It's messy. Half of hell is falling over itself to kiss his arse. The other half just seems lost, like little demonic lambs." The arrogant smirk was back though. "Please, like I'd get figured out by anyone. He thinks we're all worshiping his angelic self. Did have to time the getting out properly though. Tempted a few deals to cause a bit of political unrest in various places," he waved a dismissive hand, as if potentially destablizing a small country was no big deal. Well, frankly it wasn't when compared to his own survival. "Oops."

"Hey now my ego is perfectly in balance with my levels of awesome. But from you I take less annoying as a compliment. Which probably says something about my psyche but whatever. I have scotch." she joked. But telling her she'd still got it, she couldn't deny that didn't play to the ego he'd talked about. Of course she'd still got it, she'd made his little tests her bitch, and she really was one of the few demons left with any shred of sense. As he went on a tangent about how stupid some demons were though she shrugged. "I used to be like that though, right. Azazel could do no wrong, he'd never lie to me. He'd never trick me. Lucifer rising was the best thing for our kind. You'd never have convinced me otherwise and you knew it. It took something else, it took seeing it, and it took Sam. Even then it took a long time to really change."

He wasn't wrong, if Lucifer won then both of them were oh so very dead. Slowly, painfully, and messily. Ruby probably dying at the physical hands of her husband if Lucifer got what he wanted. "So then we fight and we win. We have most of what we need, we have three out of the four rings and death is...being death. They think its a matter of calling him. And in theory I know how to call him but god how I don't want to even try that. He sort of hates us. I think we offend the natural order. But yeah, after that, they know, Sam and Dean I mean, they know demons'll always be here. And frankly I'd rather have someone down there I know. Someone who knows how the game is played and someone who doesn't try to bring heaven down around our ears. Cause angels, scare the hell out of me. Pretty much literally. Yup, even your redhead." she added.

Not even a little was she surprised about the mess hell had become. Or that he'd continued to play both sides. Ruby liked to think she was a master manipulator and she was good, she was very good. But Crowley? In a war with two sides, he'd have stakes in at least six. This of course was a demon who would cause a war on earth to save his own ass. To most that was probably a bad thing. But in some ways really it was just how the world worked. How it always would unless Lucifer got his way.

"To the status quo then?" she tried, lifting her glass to clink against his.

"Ah, I understand, the key to your psyche is scotch. Well, not a bad key to have." And hey, for her it was the best scotch. So really, win win. Or something like that. "You," he emphasized with a gesture. "Were all the more frustrating for it. So much potential in you, all wrapped up with that yellow eyed sod. What did Sam have that I never did, huh? Oh wait, was it the height? If I'd just been taller, I could have swayed you over to my side?" He pretended to pout. "Knew I should have taken a bigger meat suit." But he'd become weirdly attached to this one. Go figure.

"We win because frankly, I don't accept an alternative," he stated, no hint of sarcasm. "I don't plan on being eviscerated any time soon. Putting my neck on the line here, placing my bets with your boy." One he really hoped he didn't regret. But hey, the Winchesters had taken down Azazel, and Lilith. "There's always a way to contact Death, but hey, those pesky morals of theirs will get in the way. So we'll just have to wait for timing to be on our side."

Ah, the redhead. Crowley had to smile fondly at the memory. "Wonder what she's up to these days." Hmm, idle thoughts. "I'm no hero, love. But then never claimed to be. I want things to be my way, end of." And if that meant destroying a country, then so be it. Better that than being found out. And really? Better for the Winchesters too. They needed someone with his connections on their side. "But, after drinks, remind me to fill you in on all the really fun gossip. A few heads up for you and yours." Gesture of good will and all.

"To the status quo," he raised his glass in return, toasted and then drank. "So, love, what's been going on around here since I left?"

He'd always said that of course. That Azazel had wrapped her up and she'd never have betrayed him. And she wouldn't have. Not even for Crowley. For that it had taken Sam. Height and all. "You think the height did it? Have you seen us? We're ridiculous. I'm tiny now. But I've kinda gotten attached to the look. And being alone in here. I'm not even sure how that makes sense but it does. I feel like its me even if its not me. And Sam gave me that." There was also what he could do when he had his powers. But that was a whole other story. But she was flattered, she had to admit that he'd been frustrated by her loyalty. "What can I say though, I worshiped Azazel. You know that. He knew how to get to people and he got to me. Talked about how perfect it could be if we brought back our father. You may be the King of the Crossroads but there was a demon that could charm anything out of anyone with just words."

She shook her head and took a large gulp of her scotch. "It took love. Real honest, confusing, messed up love to pull me away. For a little while there I wondered if maybe you finally understood that with your Celestial. But you and her, what even was that?" She didn't expect an answer from him, not really. But she'd always been curious. Really she thought he'd just been trying to outdo her. Fall for the prophicised Boy King, fine, he'd make an angel fall from grace. Maybe it had all just been a game. Who knew?

"Anyway you made a good choice. The only choice. And he'll never trust you, him or Dean. You haven't given them a lot of reason. But they'll work with you because we all want the same thing. And then when we win we'll see I guess. For what its worth I hope the good choices continue when you take charge down there." She was unsure if it would. Unsure if he'd just go back to the power game. If he did then they'd come to blows and it would get messy. But for now, she had her friend. Her last and possibly only friend from her old life.

"Where do I start, Horsemen, Death, for a while there were creepy alien bugs lead by some crazy blue bitch who thought she was one of them. And the Seal is kinda a jerk. Which I did sort of help bring to life, so whoops? Hindsight its sort of screwed Lucifer over more than us? So maybe I helped. Inadvertently? A little bit."
