"Figured I could use a few friends around, I guess." he shrugged. "Not that I don't have...we were doing the space thing and I haven't seen much of Dawn or Tara around lately, and Xander still thinks I'm evil." Why was he trying to justify having friends? That shouldn't even be remotely necessary, should it?
"No, I know and don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate the visit, I just- I wasn't expecting you, that's all." His explanation wasn't a very good one, but it was a very true on and Spike felt that should earn him some points somewhere.
"I don't know, Buffy, I-" he shook his head, leaning forward a bit on his knees, still looking up at her. "I don't know how to talk to you anymore. And I don't know why. You're still you, I'm still me..." A sigh and he stood up, "It shouldn't be this this complicated," he said, moving to stand in front of her. "Why can't it just be simple, just this once..."
