It really was hard to understand the things of Helena's world. Just as you could know plenty in terms of talking to someone, but it was always one side of the story. It was why Svetlana tried to look at everything from both sides of things. Why she tried not to judge people on the actions that were told from their world by others, on something that they had no control of. She tried to get to know the person before she judged them. It didn't work all the time. If they wronged her family or friends, Svetlana was far less inclined to give them a chance. If they were ridiculous and insulting to life in general.. well, she had a low tolerance for overall stupidity. She could be polite with the best of them, but she also did still have her tendencies to be an Ice Queen. And well, mostly she just tried to ignore the people who annoyed her so she didn't finally snap.
"Just because it is something you are unaccustomed to doing does not mean that you do not try. You have admitted yourself that if you do not let go of them, that if you keep holding onto them, things happen. You turn it into a destructive force. And if you avoid, you will lose your focus and then what?"
But then there was the issue of the sacrifice. She had heard bits and pieces of it and really, Svetlana had mixed feelings on it. Or more so, that Helena didn't grasp the actual issue of it. Of what she said and what it betrayed in her thought process. Yes. She wanted to redeem herself in Myka's eyes for what she had done, but to be upset because it was now meaningless? Well, she could only go based on what she was being told.
"There should be no expectation of reward from a sacrifice. You say it is meaningless. You gave up your life to save Myka, to save the others. They did still live. But it was erased by them setting things back so they do not know... I do not understand the concept of time travel, but when you say things like that, it seems you are missing the point entirely. People can make sacrifices and receive no reward, no benefit, but they do not think it meaningless because even if they are not known for what they did, they managed to change the outcome."
It had been bugging Svetlana for awhile, the whole sacrifice being meaningless thing. But she did nod at being granted permission to watch the show. Svetlana wasn't really into the whole science fiction thing, but to better understand some of the issues at hand, it might make sense to do so. It was at least something to consider.
"Then you can watch Chess if you are so inclined."
It was only fair. And it was the same issue for her. Svetlana hated that she was so exposed yet so marginal in the show. But it also could explain a lot. Even just things Helena might have observed but did not know how to address.
As the silence fell, Svetlana remained as she was until Helena spoke once more, nodding. She heard the unspoken statement. And that was the point. They had to take the opportunities offered to them because there was only here. Only now. The past, the future, they couldn't be changed or predicted.
