The admission that Helena made in regards to how she would most likely have run in the opposite direction had Myka been open to a relationship herself was shocking in its own right, though not terribly so. Svetlana had known for a while that Helena found it hard to be open to relationships because of things that had happened in her world and then Irene. Not only because she had died, though that had undoubtedly been the final sign in Helena's mind, but because of how the other woman had never really understood the Victorian woman. Had underestimated her and walked on eggshells around her in an attempt to protect her when that wasn't what Helena had needed at all. Was someone who could not understand the love a mother held for their child.
"You do not need to think you are open to such possibilities because sometimes they happen upon us without warning and you realize where you thought you were not open, now you are.. Even trying to run from it, you will not get far.."
That at least was something Svetlana could understand. That was something she had lived herself. She had tried to run from a relationship and yet, that same day she ran, she and Anatoly ended up together. Things just happened. There was no way to plan, no way to know how you would react. The trick was letting yourself feel that. And that wasn't something Svetlana really knew how to put into words. It just.. happened.
Could Svetlana play moral compass for Helena? It was most likely she could as the blond had a strong moral compass herself. She was one who held everything to her heart, censored herself and observed more then said things. She was very firm in her beliefs of what was right and wrong, but could she really split up her time in such a way? While she wasn't always aware of it when people fell for her and could misread the signs, Svetlana had figured out Helena's feelings for her, but as her own feelings had been respected, she never felt phased by it, and in time, she knew that Helena had moved past it and so their friendship continued on, remaining strong. So now, she had to find a way to help the Victorian woman.
"Holding on would undoubtedly cause more damage, but you are right, you need to be open to things that happen. As I said, it may not happen while you realize it and that is fine. It is just letting yourself do so that is the trick.... I understand why you would run, it is natural... we protect ourselves in the way we know how best to. But sometimes things will happen we have no way of preparing for and we move on. You are still figuring out how to do so in a healthy manner and that is fine.. so for now, perhaps the best thing you can do is focus on those who are here. Emily. It will come on its own."
Svetlana knew that for a fact. When she had nothing else to hold onto, she had the girls and thankfully, Helena had Emily. She had the rest of the people from the Warehouse as well as the friends she made here. So long as Helena focused on that, Svetlana had to believe that she would be okay. She would prod at her when necessary and keep an eye on the situation because the blond knew how easy it was to fall into numbness, into the familiar patterns of the past. And she knew that wasn't an option Helena could risk. So Svetlana would push and watch and keep an open dialogue between the two of them.
Sipping her tea, she waited for the rebuttal, because they always came in these situations. Svetlana was master of that. Knight to E five.
