"Well, they could be more aware of the world and making such statements and outwitting their bosses, but that would not precisely end well. In most cases anyway." Percy chuckled. While he had treated his servants well and knew some of his friends also treated theirs well, he well knew there were those that had a harsher approach to such people. Life wasn't always sunshine and roses, but Percy always did what he could to make it better for the people around him. And, of course, his sense of human decency had led him to help who he could in France. While he did understand revolutions and the need for change, he did not approve of the way things had gone in France. Women and children were being killed when they weren't necessarily responsible for the state of things in France. Guilt by association should never be the only method in which to condemn people to death.
"If you had been a maid, I imagine I would've witnessed you telling off your boss within five minutes of my entering the house." He smirked at that, a gleam in his eyes. Oh he couldn't help the playful jab to Marguerite in such a manner. He did so enjoy their teasing. Yes, charisma might only get one so far, but there were other ways to attract someone's attention. And no doubt Percy would've taken notice if he'd heard Marguerite raise her voice. Or chances were he might have noticed her anyway because to him, servants were just as much human beings as he himself was. They weren't faceless, nameless people to him. He knew the names of all the servants each of his close friends had, sometimes he would even talk with them a bit. He talked to his own servants and kept up a good relationship with them. Percy wasn't like everyone else in his station, and he knew that. Be it for better or for worse.
When Marguerite pulled away from him and turned back to making the salad, he playfully slumped against the wall. "And I have been left for a salad! Oh woe is me!" He exclaimed in a mock devastated tone. Though once he was finished with that bout of teasing dramatics, he stood up straight and moved closer to where she was working. "Is there anything I might help with?" Because he was going to be useful, damn it.
