It was Percy's empathy and openness to people that had drawn Marguerite to him. In a time when everyone hungered for blood and heads of aristos, when the judged became the judges, when chaos took over the people of her city, Percy had shown her what she knew to exist within people. Those who saw people for who they were, not their class. That the ability to care for even those they did not know could exist within a person. It was shocking to some, Armand, her friends, that she would fall for someone who she would curse normally. But that was because most of her interactions with the nobles had been far from pleasant. Between St. Cyr having Armand whipped and those who couldn't be bothered to help... it would seem shocking. But Marguerite had seen beneath it all and knew that this man before her was different and wonderful. So surely there was something for which he could do here that would fit the type of person he was, give him a purpose beyond an apocalyptic war.
She now knew of course that her fears had been unfounded, but there was such a difference between the French and English in such matters, and he was a nobleman, so who truly knew. That and then there was the Armand factor, Armand who she had done everything in her power to shield such matters from. All he had needed to know was that she provided for him so that he could get an education, that he could have a stable life and no more moving around from inn to inn, bridge to bridge.
The comment on her making a terrible maid was met with a brow quirk before slight laugh.
"Is that so? Because it seems to me that casting directors think differently." Between her present role as Petra, not to mention Suzanne and Dorine, well, Marguerite did end up cast as the outspoken and worldly wise maids of the frivolous rich who were incapable of doing things for themselves. "Though I imagine being outspoken would not have ended well for me."
While she was joking with her husband, they both knew that it wasn't really such a joke. That had she truly been a maid, truly been at the whim of someone of a higher class, her temper and outspoken nature would have caused more trouble for her and Armand then wanted.
But then there was the gleam in Percy's eyes and the words and the actress just quirked a brow as she moved to Percy.
"Oh, is that so?" Going up on her toes, Marguerite kissed Percy, smirking against his lips, "Because I should certainly hope so."
