Kaylee was pretty terrified right now. She'd gone from feeling pretty down and guilty for tattling on River and how she'd picked up and used a gun before to this. She didn't know what this creepy man on the ship was gonna do to any of them, but she didn't have the most reassuring feelings about him. The way he talked was so calm and crazy at the same time. The way he talked about what he would do if she didn't cooperate was scary, and she didn't think he was lying for a second when he said he would hurt her if she didn't do what he wanted her to do. She didn't want her body to be forfeit.... She didn't want to get hurt, and she didn't want anyone to get hurt. She still didn't even know how he'd gotten onto the ship. Knowing that he had got the jump on all of them wasn't helping at all, though. Kaylee wasn't going to do anything that might get herself hurt and she felt bad for that too. She'd told him where River slept to save her own skin.
Even though the man had left her tied up in the engine room she didn't feel like she was safe. She felt like he could come back any moment and follow through on his threat. She'd cooperated with a crazy person to save herself. And she'd put her friend, River, in danger. She was feeling pretty low about now. What had she done? Why had she been such a coward? The captain wouldn't never be that way, even if he pretended on the surface. And what would Simon say when he found out that she had rolled over and hadn't even tried to help River in any way. He'd hate her. He'd never want to talk to her again and poor River....she'd be gone. Kaylee didn't want to lose neither of them because she cared about them. She didn't want them to go nowhere. "Kaylee."
The mechanic heard her friend's voice and couldn't help but look up from her position, lying on the floor with her hands bound behind her back and her feet bound as well. "River!" The voice gave her a little hope, but at the same time she felt awful and afraid. "You're afraid." She was afraid. And Kaylee couldn't keep it in, the tears began to leak from the corners of her eyes again as she told River, who shouldn't have to comfort her right now, about how he tied her up and that she didn't know where he came from. She would have said more if it weren't for River telling her it was going to be okay. Kaylee didn't know if it would be, but hearing that voice say it so lucidly....it only brought her more guilt and she admitted what she did. She felt so bad, but River weren't concerned none with that. She told Kaylee to be brave and to use her tools to get free. It was comforting, if she were honest.
So, Kaylee moved, getting nearer to her tools and looking over her shoulder, feeling around and looking for the sharp ones. Once she found one that would work Kaylee paused for a moment and closed her eyes, taking a few deep breaths, but when she opened her eyes....she wasn't in the engine room anymore. The mechanic went wide eyed with worry. "River?" She asked, her voice light and fearful, but there was no answer. This was....a planet? She was on land, for sure, this wasn't any part of Serenity, she was sure of that. She was at the base of a tree.....in what looked like a park, to be truthful. Kaylee didn't know what to do, but she knew she didn't want to stay here. She knew she didn't want to be tied up like this. So, she started to cut at the binds on her wrists and whens he felt them snap she moved around so she could get the ones on her feet. Once she'd done that she couldn't help but look around. People were wandering around so normally, and they were dressed a little funny, actually.
Had the creepy man taken her from Serenity? Had something happened? Was she hallucinating? Kaylee took the moment to punch her arm, hard, only to feel the pain, "Ow!" She regretted that action instantly, rubbing her arm as she looked around. She needed to get back to the ship. She needed to get back to her crew. She couldn't stay there. She started walking. It was a little cold at the moment. Kaylee was paying attention to everything that she could. What she was able to get was that she was somewhere called Lawrence. She hadn't ever heard of a planet called Lawrence. Everything looked a little off and a little different about this place too. Kaylee didn't like it. After a few moments Kaylee had reached a series of shops. This was familiar, and yet it was different too.
"S'cuse me. I need to get a message to someone, you know where I could do that?" Kaylee asked a passerby, only to be given a strange look, which was followed with pointing to a computer cafe. Nothing more was said about that. So, Kaylee wandered in. And after a few moments of being dumbfounded by the computers in this place she sat down at one, her tool in her pocket. She didn't know where she was, but she didn't really much like what she was seeing. Primitive computers, but weird ways of dressing....things were just off.
