Phoebe spun as soon as she heard Paige’s voice, and broke into a smile. “Paige, hi!” She glanced down at her phone, then gave a small shrug and a smile, slipping it back into her pocket. “Just trying to get a signal, see if maybe I could reach . . . well, anyone.” She studied her sister for a moment. Paige did look a little older than the last time she’d seen her. It showed in the eyes. She reached out and tugged at a few loose strands of her sister’s hair. “You went dark again. It looks great.” Her hand dropping again, she glanced around the street, then back to her. “So . . . can you please tell me what’s going on here? Or should we get out here first. I’m guessing from how everyone was acting on the boards that the streets aren’t really that safe after dark, are they?”
