Reflection - A narrative
Katherine
Backdated, Tuesday evening, October 16, 2012; Katherine's house
A random, introspective narrative. Really, that's the only point here, guys.
PG/Complete
Katherine's days had begun to blur together after she started turning her attention back to the feelings she'd blocked out of her mind for so many years. The process was not an easy one, not one that would be completed without struggle. According to Jacen and a few others she'd spoken to, it would never stop being a struggle, but it would at least get easier to deal with later on, somehow. She couldn't dream of being at that point. Not now, at least. She was quickly figuring out looking into the future wasn't something that was such a great idea. Living day-to-day was her best chance at making this work. That was harder than it sounded. It was easy to turn to wishing that the worst was behind her, that the biggest part of the storm was over. But she knew if she clung to that, she'd never make any progress, so she tried to keep that thought process out of her mind, impossible as the task seemed to be.
She spent her days locked away in her house, alone, for the most part, focusing on feeling. The task sounded ridiculous when she thought about it that way, but it was actually something she needed to do. She had to remember how to feel, and more importantly, how to manage what she felt. That was easier said than done, especially as a vampire. She felt like she was newly transitioned, still feeling at the deepest, highest points possible. It was hard, because so many things made her feel so intensely, and she had to curb it to not let it take over her completely. Little things that should have been mere annoyances had made her want to break things; things that should have only made her sad sent her spiraling down towards a depression. She knew it was all part of the re-learning process, but that didn't make it any easier. Knowing she had to go through it was only enough to pull her through certain aspects. Others? She needed support.
Support she was finding more and more through one person in particular. Merlin. He was becoming her rock in all this, always there when she needed someone to turn to. She couldn't quite comprehend it, really. His faith in her confused her. His trust in her was a foreign concept. Yet, there he was, every time she made a post since he'd first helped her when this all started. She never realized the true power of someone just being there until he'd come along, and she wasn't quite sure what to make of it.
Katherine let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding, staring at the reflection in the mirror. She still looked the same, but she didn't even recognize herself. She had been in
Lawrence for close to a year now and so much had changed. More than she would have
ever expected.
