Starting slow was definitely a good idea given that it was still early. Who knew what the night might bring. Who knew what any night might bring in Lawrence. It was basically a place where nothing was set in stone, where anything could happen at a moment's notice. The ghosts after months of silence. She hadn't been around for Moriarty, but she knew the damage that had come. Then there had been Mr. Dark, his carnival. So really, it may be necessary to be sober anyway. Not that the night was designed for the two to remain as such.
"What does anyone expect upon showing up in a world on the bring of an apocalypse?"
It was a valid question. After all, who shows up in such a role on a normal basis and knows exactly what to expect? Ruby had been around for months now and sometimes she still found it hard to adjust. She still didn't know what to expect. Who would show up, who would be sent back. There had been mass disappearances and mass arrivals, sometimes people showed up and no one got sent back.
"Still, adjusting in some way is better than not at all."
Sometimes, sometimes Ruby had moments where she was able to be logical, smart. They were few and far between, she was rash and acted on instinct, but in some things, she could keep a level head. Or maybe that was Red coming through. She really had no idea. Peter.. his ghost, it had triggered something in her, something she didn't quite understand but had to wonder if it was reawakening the part of her who had been cursed and locked away.
"I find that finding a way to keep active helps. Like working at the Inn. I know how to do it because of Granny's. Maybe something like that would help?"
