WHO: August Booth and a really bitchy sorta-princess.
WHAT: August is human again! Yay! Emma has questions. Boo.
WHEN: After the teamwork of Loki and Merlin fix him.
WHERE: Manor Storybrooke
WARNINGS: Confusion. Probably wood jokes.

It was terrible, feeling any part of yourself turn into wood, but the worst was the heart, lungs, and brain. The pain was excruciating, at least while it lasted. But once everything transformed there was nothing. No consciousness. No thoughts. No pain. Nothing.

It's why it felt like a very painful blink of an eye and then he was back, shifting back to flesh with a gasping breath and wide eyes. August could feel his heart beating again, he felt sensations returning to his limbs. After a few seconds he could even move his fingers and toes again. But when he tried to move his limbs it felt... wrong. It felt like he was swinging, with painful tightness around his elbows, wrists, and knees.

And then realization hit.

He had been so focused on the fact that he was himself again that at first he hadn't realized that he was tied up. But he seemed to be, and he was pretty sure that he hadn't been when he transformed seconds earlier. He tugged at the ropes that were tied around him, trying to pull them loose from whatever they were hooked to, and when they didn't budge he looked up to see that they were attached to an oversized marionette control bar. Okay, that wasn't funny. "...Seriously? Come on!"

Jokes about bondage aside, Emma felt no guilt in tying up the wooden block. First of all, they needed to make sure he'd be still while the magic worked. Secondly, she had questions. This wouldn't be like Storybrooke where he could take off running. He probably wouldn't be running right away anyway, but she'd rather not take her chances.

She was sitting in a chair next to the bed they'd given him in the house she now apparently shared with half of Storybrooke, and when the hell had that happened? She was looking over case files for work when she felt him start to stir. Emma glanced up, refusing to look pleased. Merlin and Loki had, of course, succeeded. Oh, he'd been flesh again. But waiting to see how he reacted was important, too. If he'd heal, if he'd be all right.

She returned her eyes to the papers in her hands and let out a sigh. "Had to improvise. Like hospital restraints. You were trying to fight the magic bringing you back." Not entirely true. But when one holds a grudge against a puppet, they should do so properly. And she was angry. It was only him lying in the bed looking rather pathetic that kept her from punching him.

Finally the stack of papers went down to her lap and she narrowed her eyes in a glare. "If I let you go, are you going to try and run? Because I don't have a medical degree but I really don't think that's the best idea."

When August heard a familiar voice off to the side he looked over, then couldn't quite resist rolling his eyes. It kinda figured though. Emma was the last person he saw before his transformation finalized, she was the first person he saw now that he was better. Except something was different. Her clothes, for one thing. Completely different outfit. And as he looked around the room again he noticed that it wasn't his room at Granny's. Trusty room #2 was nowhere in sight.

"Why the hell would I run?" he asked, brow perking a bit at her already. August meant it though. The weirdness of being tied up aside, he wasn't entirely sure what gave Emma the idea that he was going to bolt at the sight of her. He wasn't really known for ditching her, after all. At least, not since he re-met her. Besides, that other time? That was once. When he was seven. "Just... untie me, Emma. I'm not going to take off."

Besides. His muscles still felt weird and achy.

He did look rather innocent and, admittedly, kind of pathetic all bound up like that. "Well, first of all, because you're waking up in a strange scenario. Fight or flight. And secondly? Because we're about to talk. And it's gonna get uncomfortable." She hesitated, and then finally, a tiny smirk crossed her face. "Besides, I found it amusing."

At least she won points for honesty.

She stood, then, and more gently than she'd intended to, untied him. "Take it easy," she murmured, actually sounding kind which she hadn't intended. "Apparently it'll be a bit for everything to go back to normal." It was strange, really. This man who she'd seen on the television, who she knew knew her better than most, and she'd never actually met him. And while she'd had time to think while worrying if Loki and Merlin could save him, and then again while sitting and waiting for him to come to, it didn't make it any less strange to actually see this man in the flesh.

Sitting back down, Emma watched him for a moment. "How are you feeling?" she asked hesitantly.
