“You're here and allowing me to cling to you,” she said softly. “You're not the only one falling apart, Peter. I...” She closed her eyes, struggling against her emotions, trying to bury them down as she always had. “I miss her, desperately.” she said simply, sliding from the counter, angling her body so that he didn't see the tears she was trying to keep inside.
After all, she was here to take care of him, not become a mess herself.
“Alright, I'm going to run out and get us some...just stare at the sauce and make sure it doesn't boil over for me?” she asked as she grabbed her bag again, fishing out her wallet and finally looking up at him. “I'll be right back, I promise.”
