She smiled, gently squeezing their entwined fingers as she listened to his heartbeat. The feel of him playing with the ends of her hair made her skin tingle slightly and she coloured, pushing aside the sensations for a more proper mindset of comforting her friend, not taking pleasure in his absent minded treatment of her hair.
Even if it did feel nice.
“You have me for whatever you need,” she said as she looked up at him, giving him a soft smile. “Even if it's just someone to cling to while you sob,” she gave his waist a squeeze before stepping away as she heard the water boiling, slicing X's into the tomato tops and bottoms, dropping them into the pot, only to fish them out a minute later and dumping them into a water bath.
“This won't be as good as if it spent all day simmering,” she said, peeling the hot tomatoes. “So no complaints, got it?” She gave him a fake stern look over her shoulder, ruining it by giggling.
