If she had thought England a different world from France, nothing could have prepared her for America and the future. Then again, who would plan ahead for jumping two hundred and twenty years into the future? No one. Unless they were from a world where such things could happen and did happen. For Marguerite and Percy? That wasn't the kind of world they lived in. So all she could do was just go with it.
The comment on how it was then obvious that mankind hadn't learned from their mistakes just caused the actress to nod. There had been many conversations in their courtship. After all, how could an English gentleman truly understand why the people of France were so upset. And he had known her feelings on the new regime. The barbaric nature that had taken foot in her home.
"No, they have not. There are still power struggles, hunger, poverty.... children starving and not able to get what they need.... It's better but they are still rather serious in nature. Even in France.... the power struggle and upheaval.... all it led to were more people corrupted by power so that another 'revolution' was needed..."
Not that Marguerite felt it would do much good. She knew that Eponine had died before its end, that she didn't know how it ended and she had never really asked Enjolras but the fact remained, Marguerite knew that a bunch of students couldn't do what the French government and those in power couldn't do. There was too much social upheaval.
"And its not just France..." Because Russia had done it and who knew how many other countries. It was depressing.
"Its human nature though, though. The judging and fear and not bothering to help others because they always have to focus on themselves." It was frustrating. Because Marguerite had lived both lives. She knew that with donating to charities, to putting your money to use and not just being selfish, it was possible to help people without the call to violence. But why would anyone do that? Why change the status quo?
