The more Elena spoke, the closer Anatoly watched her. He saw how upset she was getting, the difficulty it was for her to breathe. But he wasn't going to force her to calm down just yet. She wasn't sick with tuberculosis so she wasn't in danger of suddenly coughing herself to death right in front of him. Though he was starting to fear that she might work herself up to a point where he'd need to sedate her. Not that she was showing any signs of potentially being a danger to herself, but he would sedate her if he had to to keep her calm. It was more than obvious that she hadn't really dealt with anything that she was saying, so she clearly needed to get it out.
He was going to make a remark that she was more than just a blood bank, but refrained from doing so as there was obviously something about her blood that was the catalyst in all of this. No doubt it was the whole Petrova Doppleganger thing, which he didn't exactly have the details of, but he was needing to listen right now, not ask prodding questions. Those would come later. Namely when she was off of painkillers.
"People will always do anything and everything they can to protect their loved ones. But pain is also part of life. Maybe it isn't right or fair for people to suffer it, but the fact of the matter is that someone always will. Though just because people around you have died or been hurt doesn't mean that it will continue to those you know here." Anatoly understood her fears on the matter. He knew Svetlana still had her reservations and worries that he'd leave her or cheat on her again, and she had every right to fear that. Some worries couldn't be combatted by words or words alone. Sometimes actions were needed, and those actions needed to be repeated and reinforced over longer periods of time.
"Elena, pushing people away from you is not the answer. And I'm not going anywhere. I care about you as do your other friends. You may not admit it, but you need us. Isolating yourself from people just because of what might occur is not the answer. And you aren't getting rid of me quite so easily." Which was more than true. Anatoly was stubborn and he wasn't going to let Elena push him away when she so obviously needed people there for her. And he was also fairly certain that her other friends wouldn't let her push them away either.
