He couldn't possibly know, but his voice made her worry even more. She shouldn't have left him alone this long, no matter what he'd asked. Yes, she was stubborn. She always had been, standing up for herself and her beliefs and her people, despite the fact that a woman of her station in her time was consistently told to never do such a thing. The decisions she'd made, even the poorer ones, had all been hers. Or had been forced on her against her will. Something she didn't want to consider.
It wasn't her he was looking at. Robin's eyes were on a point nearby. And she watched, following his gaze until it landed back on her. She swallowed, hard, but squared her shoulders. No, Marian wasn't fearless. That wasn't something she could ever grant herself. But when it came to the things she felt passionately about, she could be brave if needed. And Robin was one of the things she was the most passionate about. And it was definitely needed.
Ignoring his pleas, she made her way to his side, kneeling next to him. She placed the ghost-guarding objects beside her and then rested her hands on his knee. "I can't. I won't. You can't ask me that, Robin. I won't leave you alone while you face this."
