"I am. I am growing quite fond of you two. Seemed like better to do it that way." There was a flush to his cheeks and his eyes cut away for a moment. He was not good at admitting such things.
He watched her and all the little signals showed him her tension, her reaction. He nodded slowly, watching her body and her small movements with a knowing eye. Somehow, they had some similar talents. She had been a spy for long years, a trained assassin. Out of sheer necessity, running from SHIELD and all of the other alphabets, as well as numerous private hunters and the militaries of several countries, he had learned body language, lies, redefining one's self, and how to lie. Even so, he was not on her level.
He knew, if she did not trust him so, she would not have let so much show, and so he said nothing when she spoke of it as a loss she did not feel. To say anything would have been to breach that trust, and that was something he would never do. Her comment to him brought a twisted smile, lopsided and not as sad as he thought it would have been.
"Once long ago I wanted one. Or more. But it would never have been wise, not with my issues, and my history. Better for me to just help keep everyone else's children safe."
