Twenty minutes was more than enough time for Joel. He had it down to a science on how to hurt her for disobeying or being weak or whatever he thought up in a time frame where no one would catch him. In ways no one would see the injuries. Really, Abby should have known better. But she just wanted to go about her life as normally as she could.
"Stevie. He tried to get to me to protect me..."
She didn't fault the diictodon. How could she? He had wanted to help. It wasn't his fault that he was so low to the ground and didn't actually grasp the concept of the salt line that he instead opened Abby up to being attacked when that was what he'd been trying to prevent. They both knew that even one opening would give the ghost entrance. Once that was done? Well, the evidence was all over the flat of the fight that took place.
So what, maybe Connor didn't expect an answer, but it was needed. Because there were others with ghosts who would hurt people and if they had done everything right and there had been no opening, well, they'd have to let people know, right? Security. And while it wasn't something Abby wanted to think about, the pain was consistent so she wasn't really able to focus on anything else as it were.
As Connor cursed her foster father, Abby remained silent. Because she just wanted him gone. She was tired of his presence. Three days was enough to send her spiraling from fear and being ten again. Three days was enough to set her panic levels to high. She didn't know how much she could take of his presence. But she also knew that when he went, so would Cutter and then what?
No, right now, silence was better. Because there wasn't anything she could say that would make either of them feel better. So she would focus on questions and things that were straight to the point. Because she had to find a new way to pull herself from this, and questions and Connor seemed to help ground her right now.
