Why was he here? Now that was a question and a half and in truth he wasn't sure he actually knew. He wanted the absolution he had always believed in his heart only Marian could give him. He wanted her to tell him how to live because if he had her, even just in his life. He could be a better man, she made him a better man much as he'd done to her over the years. He'd been cruel, vicious, and then of course he had ended her life. It was a lot he was asking of her and it would aggravate Hood no end to know that his Lady had conceded to meet him. But for once, that wasn't the point.
"Yes well, you care about the common man. About the people and the Kingdom. I never had the luxury of caring for those beneath me. I didn't have time nor inclination. And then I suppose when it came to it it was too late to start. I lived a harsh life. You know that as well as I my Lady. Made some terrible choices and listened to the wrong people. But don't think I did not know what I was walking myself into by making a deal with that man. He offered power and position. There was a time when I was willing to pay any price to gain it."
Marian admitted her larger part in the information leak in the castle and Guy nodded. He'd known that a while, just never at the time. He wouldn't have believed it of her. "I know, they had you and I had Allen. Always such a messy situation, spying. You never know the kind of things you'll have to do or lies you'll have to tell." And oh but she had been a good liar.
How he wished she was lying when she spoke again. The same words that had once incited his wrath so, and she was looking at him as she spoke. "...I can try. I want to." he promised her with a slight tremor in his voice. "And I know you love him, I know you always have and I want you happy. So if you think he'll make you happy then I will not stand in the way. But I do love you Marian. I always will, no matter what. I need you to know that, needed you to hear it from me. And to know I will try never to hurt you again, in word or deed."
