Who; Eponine and Enjolras What: Thinking about the past and her new future Where: Eponine's Inn When: Sunday Evening Rating: Nothing but memories of a creeper Status: In Progress
Her Inn. Hers now. Not tainted with her fathers greed. Oh he'd never been cruel back then. She'd been the little Princess, given new clothes at the expense of Cosette. But then that old man had come to take her away and everything had changed. The business had failed and they'd moved into the city itself. And what had just been greed and cut corners had turned to crime. Brujon, Babet, Claquesous and of course...
Oh she'd been flattered at first, a year or two older, and dangerous. Oh so very dangerous. But her father had pushed her toward the young man assuming it could only go ways toward ensuring loyalty to give Montparnasse what he wanted. Well, besides money and blood anyway. And he'd so often tried to take it, knife teasing at her skin as he told her that she'd be his one day. It was just a matter of time. And excitement had turned to revulsion. And then of course she'd met Marius and understood what it was to love someone completely and that had only infuriated 'Parnasse more. But that was done. It was done. It was all behind her. And in taking this place, making it work for her, making it legitimate she would make something better of the name Thenardier.
She washed the last of the tables after the day before. Making sure everything was in order, everything was clean. Ruby had used another word for clean that Eponine didn't understand but it was that too. Ruby had shown her things to use that made it all legal. And she was happy with this. Having people like her around was more than helpful. Eponine could not have done it alone. She had friends here, She had Enjolras. He was amazing. The best thing in her life since she had come here. And it seemed he and the young country girl, Belle were growing close. That was nice. He deserved that. She ignored the slight wariness in her over this. Over something so simple. She was happy for him of course but would it mean she would lose him. If he fell for the girl would he not be in her life anymore.
Jealousy...over a bourgois two a penny thing. It seemed like it was her life. But this wasn't the same. This wasn't the love of her life telling her that he loved someone else. Some girl he'd never met, but she had...It was payback for how Cosette had been treated by her family. This though. This was just her being selfish. All it was.
Oh how she wished he was here. Him and all of the students. She missed them, though likely not as much Enjolras would have. Looking around the Inn she thought about them, drinking, laughing. And Marius was there, when she closed her eyes. Marius was there. But he wasn't was he? He was happy, in Paris, with his Cosette and Enjolras would be happy here in Kansas with Belle and she...she would be on her own.She stopped her cleaning, sitting down and closing her eyes. It was easier when she could live there, inside her head. Things were better there.
