Amy ate the rest of the marshmallow slowly, careful not to burn her mouth with anything that was too hot. Once finished, she set the skewer on a nearby table. Even though the party had pretty much come to a finish the atmosphere was still pleasant and she found herself smiling for no real reason at all. It was true that come morning something awful could come along, but Amy didn’t want to think about that. She wanted to enjoy the good mood that her bonfire had brought on and to do that she had to banish worries from her mind.
“It did turn out good.” She smiled, very proud that her plans had turned out so nicely. She had worried that Priestly wouldn’t have been around for the finished product. As she’d just begun doing research as to where the bonfire could be held, Priestly had been sent home. Amy persevered though she felt awful and as if her prayers had been answered he showed up once more. That he’d been sent back to Lawrence by the mercurial seal was just a cherry on top of the sundae.
“I think everyone had a good time.” Amy nodded. She knew that not all of the displaced people in Lawrence got along perfectly all of the time. That’s how things went with just about anyone in any place and it was to be expected. Add certain difficulties into the mix and you came up with a load of drama. Amy was grateful that she hadn’t made any enemies just yet.
Amy picked up an almost empty bag of marshmallows, raising them slightly so Priestly could see. “Want to help me finish these off?” She let out a quiet laugh.
