Kon bowing out to the Fortress didn't come as a surprise to Clark, nor did his emotional reaction to what had happened the day Superboy Prime arrived. At first, Clark thought that Kon needed to stay away. He knew how up and down Kon's temper had been. Being around the problem would only force Kon back into that dark place he had been working so hard to stay away from and - though Clark had vowed to pull Kon out of the dark every single time he fell in - he didn't want to see Kon struggle like that. He didn't want to let Kon fall.
But he didn't want to crowd him either. Not right away. Clark gave Kon a little time. He hung back and spent a little while researching Prime on his own via the internet (that was one of the perks of coming from what this world deemed a fictional universe - he could type in a name or event and everything he wanted to know would be right at his fingertips). What Clark discovered about what had happened between Prime and Kon both infuriated and horrified him, but Clark chose against acting on impulsive emotions and instead decided to pay Kon a visit. Turning on Prime, especially after he told everyone that he was from before everything that had happened, wouldn't have been fair. If he was telling the truth, he deserved to have a chance to change his fate.
That didn't mean Clark was comfortable about the idea of what could happen if things got out of hand with Prime, but he fully intended on keeping an eye on him. If he stepped out of line, if it seemed like he was going to march himself down the path that resulted in Kon's death, Clark would be the first in line to stop him.
But that was an if and it was one reserved for the future. Right now, Clark needed to focus on Kon and Kon alone. Once inside the Fortress, Clark immediately sought him out, knowing well enough that he'd be hiding away inside somewhere. Concern guiding him through the various halls and rooms within the Fortress, it didn't take Clark very long to find Kon. He brushed past a pair of robots that were distractedly milling about with reports on one of the environmental tanks he'd been researching and began to walk toward Kon...before he saw the glint of red gleaming in his eyes. He paused. Clark had personally carried that same look plenty of times before, mostly when he was caught up in a fight that had gotten under his skin. The last time Clark's eyes had held that same violent red glare, he had been at war with Doomsday...
And Kon had been at war with Prime. Just before he, too, had gotten himself - no. Clark didn't want to think about it. He started forward again. "Kon?"
