And it had only been Marian's love for her father that had kept her trapped under the Sheriff's thumb for so long. Knowing that one wrong move and he wouldn't take it out on her but on Edward made her think on every single rebellion. And while it did hurt to think of the loss of one of the greatest men in her life, it had freed her to be with the other great man she loved. And when she was forced to again turn spy, she did it with the knowledge that her escape was in her own hands now, and she wasn't forced to stay by any means.
"You did, Robin. And I agreed." Her smile was small and sweet. "Warn King Richard, defeat the Sheriff, get married. In that order." Well. It had almost worked out that way. King Richard certainly knew. And they'd thwarted the Sheriff's plan, though the horrible little man was still very much alive when he'd left her there in the desert with Robin and his men. Still, when had things ever gone according to plan with the two of them? It had seemed appropriate at the time. "And I think I was possibly even more happy to say yes than I was as a girl."
Her? A marvel? All for doing the things any woman would've...well, should have done for her country, her king, and the man she loved? Her smile was bashful, then, but she lifted his hand to place a light kiss against his fingers. It was a bit bold, a little bit rash, and completely Marian. She didn't have to play the part of the cold-hearted empty woman any longer. Though she'd have to keep it to herself a bit longer, she was his wife, in her heart if nowhere else.
"Is that why you chose me?" she teased, loving that mischievous little smile he seemed to always have. Like he was up to something, no matter what was going on. Even when he looked at her, he seemed to have something entirely playful behind those eyes. It just made her love him more. "Because I'm a marvel? Excellent choice of words there, Robin. Well done."
