His chest tightened more with every word Lois spoke, and he followed her to Chloe's apartment, standing just inside the doorway as he watched her move around, searching for her cousin. At any other time, he might have marveled at how much energy she always seemed to have, but right then, his own ability to maintain focused thoughts was null and void.
"Tess said that...Chloe somehow healed her," he murmured, leaning heavily against the door. "But by the time I got there, she was already..." He couldn't bring himself to say the word, either. He felt like he was having some kind of terrible nightmare that he couldn't seem to wake up from.
