It had been a slow night as far as patrols went so far. She'd been keeping an eye out for the people who were out, but no one had called in for help or back-up. That was't unusual, really. Since Moriarty, things had been quieter. There was still crime, of course and Mr. Dark's team was working hard to get the insight into the carnival, but for the patrols, they were mostly robbery-related incidents.
Not that she was complaining. It was the perfect time for a break from missions or heavy research. With Queen Industries launching and setting up the rest of the Watchtower floors, she had been pretty busy. On top of that, new people seemed to be asking her about patrols every week, so she'd been keeping up with scheduling and the more organizational side of things.
Besides, she knew it wouldn't last.
She just didn't expect it to end so soon after she had that thought, however.
As Chloe made the routine check around the security cameras, she saw Tess Mercer taking a late night walk, seemingly by herself. She was about to roll her eyes when something glistered from the edge of the screen. It only took her a second before she realized those were eyes. Yellow eyes.
She gasped when a moment later, a full grown wolf jumped the red head. Chloe wasted no time in trying to ask for back-up, but no one seemed to be responding. Not fast enough anyway.
But back-up did arrive. A man with a red mask attacked the wolf, Tess was already unconscious and bleeding on the floor, but the man had the wolf's attention now. After another failed attempt at calling for back up, Chloe swallowed hard and looked down at her own hands. She hesitated, just for a second, before picking up the gun that had been hidden under her desk, that her other self seemed to have left there, and made her way out of the double doors.
By the time she ran out of the elevator and out of the building, her heart was beating fast. They were just around the corner, less than half a block away, so she ran. She ran as fast as she could, but if the silence was anything to go by, she was too late. Hopefully just too late to catch the wolf and not to…
"Oh God." She muttered, pausing when she saw both Tess and the man laying unconscious on the ground side by side, blood pooling under the two of them. Flowing. The blood was still flowing, she shouldn't be too late.
Without hesitating this time, she knelt down between them, looking at Tess' pale face and at the man's now exposed torso for just a split second before taking a deep breath and setting her gun on the floor. Chloe then lifted both hands, one over each of their chests.
The faint yellow light began to shine from under her palms instantly as they began to grow warm. They weren't dead, it was working. She was healing them.
Since she hadn't used her powers since her arrival, she hadn't been sure she still had it. Especially since her future self seemed to have lost hers a while later, but as she felt her energy flowing from her body to theirs, she knew it was as strong as ever and maybe she hadn't healed two people at once before, but she could see the claw marks on their exposed skin fading as she grew more and more tired.
Her body relaxed and her eyelids got heavy. So heavy she could barely keep them open anymore. Even as she felt her own chest burning faintly where the wounds she was healing had been on the two of them, she found herself sliding down to the ground as her own energy faded completely.
