Myka didn't know why she was talking as much as she was either beyond the fact that she hadn't had Pete around to crack jokes with or the talk to. She couldn't stand him at first and now she was realizing how much she relied on the intuitive agent. He was an annoying brother who was always there. And she had left him. Because she'd lost sight of herself and her emotions. She had been okay, then. Well, no. She'd been miserable despite being surrounded by books. No sense of purpose, much like she was here.
As Anatoly gave his own opinion on the present topic at hand, Myka just took a drink. The parallel of the Regents to the KGB wasn't so far fetched. After all, Helena's rant on the Regents led to Svetlana's KGB rant. There were differences, of course. The Regents hid. Pete never would have known his mom was one if Sykes hadn't been going after them and killing them. It was a fluke.
But how to describe the Warehouse? Everything it did and stood for. Myka had sworn to protect and serve when she had entered the Secret Service and she still did so, even if the threats were unknown.
"Believe me, you can't escape the Warehouse. You can try but..." Why would you want to? Her family were the other agents and they were fractured at the moment. And because you couldn't leave the Warehouse, strings were pulled. It changed a person. There was wonder and amazing things, hope. But there was pain and secrets and darkness as well.
"And how do you hold on to who you are here when that which makes you who you are isn't?" There were no artifacts, no cases or pings. No Pete, no Artie, no Steve or even Mrs Fredric. Sighing in frustration, Myka finished her glass of gin and tonic, shooting Anatoly an odd look as he squeezed her hand. Really. He had to stop being a more mature version of Pete. It was creepy.
"Mm."
She wasn't so certain she subscribed to Anatoly's definition of destiny as she was still convinced blowing up was in her future, but she let it drop before nodding at the silent question of if she wanted another drink. Where else was she going to go right now anyway?
