People had expressed concern? Over her? Dear god, why? What had she ever done that made her worthy of anyone giving a damn about her? She'd betrayed the people who had bothered with her, left them to fight this battle on their own while she settled with a man who she knew was in the wrong and yet refused to turn in. They had every right to hate her and they'd asked after her? Jo, likely. Maybe Darcy or Lois. She owed them so much and she had no idea of how to go about doing so.
But then Loki continued. And her eyes widened. "Someone from my world?" she replied, her voice catching. A he? God, it wouldn't be Graham, would it? Or David. Life would throw her David when what she really needed was her mother. Or her best friend. Same sort of thing, really. Or... No, not August. She wasn't even ready to deal with that. She was feeling abandoned enough right now without facing the man who'd left her behind and robbed her of her last link to her world. She exhaled slowly and nodded. "Do you know who?" Because hell, if it was August, she was going right back into that damn ball. How badly had his princess failed?
As for his question... She couldn't stay. Hell, it probably wasn't even safe. And soon enough she'd have the baby to deal with and then what? What was she supposed to do about that in a crime lord's mansion? Sighing, she looked around miserably. "That's...probably a good idea, I guess. I... I don't even know what to do with it all." It wasn't hers to deal with, really, save the few bags she'd brought with her when he'd finally talked her into moving in. But who else did he trust? Would the house just sit abandoned until the city finally figured out something wasn't right?
She rubbed her temples, her eyes closed and wounded. "I don't know. I don't know what to do about anything now." Not that he would, but it helped to finally speak her worries out loud. She'd spent the last several months wrapped up in his web. Prey didn't usually get to go free from the spider's web. What did it to do then? Was it able to fly again? Was it still so sticky that it was forced to die anyway? How was she supposed to pick up these pieces when she wasn't even sure where the pieces began?
