As the minutes ticked by slowly, Jeremy grew worried. What if Katherine had gotten her? Or whatever weird power there was that had brought them here? He was just about to stand up and start pacing in worry when a familiar voice rang out to him, pulling him from his thoughts and drawing his eyes to a familiar face. A swirl of emotions ran through him as he saw Elena coming to him. Relief, hope, fear, worry, and far too many more to name. He moved towards her and met her half way, returning her hug just as tightly as she gave it. Maybe a little more so. The fact that he could touch her, physically touch her and smell the shampoo in her hair, the detergent in her clothes, he knew she was anything but a ghost.
"God Elena it's good to see you," he said, his voice muffled from the hug. He didn't want to release her from the hug, but he knew if he didn't people would start to stare at them oddly. Tightening his grip for a moment he slowly loosened his arms, his dark eyes studying her. Immediately he could see the worry she was trying to hide in her eyes. He knew her too well to be fooled so easily. "Elena, is everything okay? Are you okay?" he asked. Jeremy was proud that he managed to keep his voice at the right tone of brotherly worry for her. Too much and she could ask what was wrong and he had no desire to tell her he had figured out she was dead.
But it was odd. Why had only Alaric's ghost appeared? Why not Elena's too? After all, they would have died at the same time. So what had happened? Could she have been revived somehow? That...was a nice, hopeful thought and Jeremy was going to cling to it until someone told him differently. There was no way on Earth Elena would leave him alone if she could avoid it. Not after they had lost so much. Right?
