“Yeah, it sounds that way. All the stuff that’s been showing up lately? I don’t remember it doing that before.” She didn’t trust it, personally, and she hadn’t yet gotten anything…not that there was anything from back there that she’d want. She had no ties to anyone back there, and no actual belongings, so it didn’t matter. When he mentioned loaning Dawn some books, one shoulder lifted in a shrug. “I guess. I dunno what she’d like – not like we’re best buds or anything.” She kept a general eye out for the kid, for Buffy’s sake since the blond wasn’t around, but otherwise she kept her distance, knowing there was no love lost between her and the youngest Summers.
“Yeah, I guess. Just seems like I might be bringing him down in general, though. Few months back, we were sent to this future, where we were married and had a son and I was a social worker,” she replied, glancing over at him again. “It was weird and bizarre, but…kinda nice, too. You know? Living a normal life and all that. Though everyone pretty much says that all that future stuff in general was just alternate crap, and a lot of it won’t happen now that we know about it.” Shrugging again, Faith absently scuffed one booted foot along the black mark she’d left on the stairs. At what he said about the Council, Faith eyed him for a moment. “Yeah, well…things might’ve gone a little differently. But at least B stopped the Mayor.”
Meeting his eyes, she listened silently for a moment, then broke out in laughter when he called Felicia a bitch. It took her a moment to get herself under control, and as she caught her breath, Faith shook her head. “Damn, I don’t remember the last time I laughed like that! Thanks for that, Wes. And, yeah, I’m trying to not get baited. But it’s hard not to say shit back when people say that stuff about me.” Especially when she knew some of it was true.
She went quiet for a moment as she studied him, then finally spoke up slowly, a little unsure. Nervous, even. “Wes….what would you say to us maybe giving the Slayer/Watcher thing another try? I know there’s a lot of training and stuff I never learned, and I’ll promise not to try to kill you, if it helps?” Her eyes fell almost immediately. “But, you know, if you don’t want to, you can say so and we can just forget I asked. It’d be okay with me.”
