So far, so good, really. Elphaba was actually impressed with herself for explaining things and having enough people skills to be able to do this without completely overloading Marguerite. She'd never thought of herself as a people person, but the friends she'd had here in Lawrence had obviously had an impact on her in talking to others. Then again, having been here for almost two years and not being hunted down like a wicked witch tended to have that effect on a person. Really, Elphaba never wanted to go back to Oz. She really wanted to stay here. Here, she was happy. Well, she'd be happier if Galinda was still here, but the fact was that she was happier here than she'd ever been in Oz. Living as public enemy #1 was not a life she wanted to return to.
But even she well knew how the Seal could be. Friends coming and going through it. She was the only one in her circle of friends that had never been taken back to her own world. She'd watched it take everyone else she was close to. She was fearful the Seal would take Elena again. She was fearful of making other friends for that very reason because Elphaba was not one that handled loss well. As was evidenced by her current epic brooding over Galinda, though that was also being fueled by her unrequited love, so she was justified in that matter. But still.
Elphaba merely nodded at Marguerite's statement about the Seal. There really wasn't much else to be said in that matter. Anyone could come through at any time. Sometimes pandemonium raged as a result, sometimes not. Really, it was all a matter of getting used to. So really, she was just leaving that there.
Now, with Marguerite's reaction, Elphaba got a little nervous. After all, she knew not everyone believed in magic or came from somewhere that had magic. And there were also those that thought magic was a sign of the devil. Going off of Marguerite's words, she was one that didn't believe in magic as opposed to thinking it was a mark of the devil.
"Yes, magic." Elphaba glanced around just to ensure they were the only people there. When that was validated, she looked at Marguerite. "I am a witch. I do not wish to frighten you, I do not use magic to hurt people. I try to help people." There was no lie in her words and she kept eye contact with Marguerite, letting the other woman know she was not lying. She then held up a hand. "This isn't my natural skin color. I'm using a spell right now to make my skin appear this color that is viewed as normal in this world. My natural skin color is green." And because she knew that was difficult to believe, and Elphaba wanted to show that magic was real in this place and also reveal her real self to Marguerite, Elphaba said a few words, dropping the charm spell and all of her visible skin reverted to its natural emerald green shade.
And now she would simply wait for Marguerite to adjust to this. And she sincerely hoped the other woman wouldn't die of shock or call her an abomination or something. Though really, the name calling wouldn't be new to her.
